I was given these, along with a ton of other units for a really good price. The other units are the Base color seen on the bottom 2 (Bone?). But I would prefer to theme them after the big Hive Tyrant.

1) What would I need to paint something like the Hive Tyrant? I havent bought paint yet, and looking to go to the FLGS today.

2) Would I want to strip the Base off the unpainted ones, since its bone, or just paint over it?

3) How do you know when to air brush, vs dry brush?

4) Say something has yellow on it, and you want to make that into gold/brass colored, is this possible, or would you just strip it?

Modeling Questions:

1) Would I want to do Magnetizing on all my weapons? Or Just the ones that are bigger? (Say, a TWC, do I want to make the arm that holds the axe/fist etc magnetized, or just the bigger ones?)

2) Is it easy to remove an arm if i glue it?

3) Do I want to do weighted bases? Or are the original ones pretty good

4) Where do i find the material people glue to the bases?

Sorry for so many questions XD

Big base looks kinda like expandable sealer - like for kitchen, home repairs etc - anyway that's what I'd likely do to try to get the same effect

Unless you're going to reposition the minis, no need to strip it off the base to just paint the base. If you want to add stuff to the base, it's possible as well. Just have to be a little more careful is all.

Air brush is a tool, like a hairy brush, dry brush is more a technique, with a hairy brush. If you want to bring out raised surfaces, db'ing is good. Really though look up videos on it and on airbrushing, if you have one. Either way, they both take practice, tho airbrushing a lot more imo, and everyone ends up kind of with their own decision making process as to what looks good, when to do it, how much to do it, etc.

Yellow isn't a bad base for a gold brass, I prefer brown, but you could just paint a couple layers of the gold/brass over it, or go ahead and paint brown and then do the layers.

Can't say about magnetizing, that's not so much modeling as a playing question - and I dunno nids :(

It can be fairly easy to remove an arm... if you don't use a ton of glue, and are only using something like super glue, NOT plastic weld glue (which chemically melts two pieces of plastic together) It can be hard to remove an arm if you use too much glue, or the glue is ancient, or not a superglue (CA)

If the bases tip easily, weight 'em. Easier than worrying about your mini getting damaged and your new paint job getting mucked up.

If by materials you mean like the pic above, already gave my impression of it - unless it's a kit or something I dunno about. You might google Tyranid terrain for instance or bases. Otherwise, good basing materials: cork, small rocks, coffee grounds, tea leaves, birch seeds, bits of sprue all with PVA. Or you can buy stuff from places like secret weapon miniatures, woodland scenics etc. Check out miniatures as well as scale modeling sites.

If it's a thin layer of yellow It can be repainted with the color you like. But if it's too thick you will need to strip the paint.

Don't rush for airbrush if you never painted a model before. I suggest look up to some tutorials and learn the basic with good old hairbrush.

Third, those are some decent looking models. I don't think it needs any stripping and repainting at all. All you can do is just rebase the models to your taste. There are plenty of cheap alternatives on ebay when it comes to bases. I use bases made of foam circles for my bases.

If you plan go to magnetizing models... it's a whole new learning curve than painting models, but folks around me mainly magnetize expensive in points models that can be upgraded in many ways. I would not bother magnetise Tactical Mariens or even Tyranid warrios.
