Must all 15 infantry models in the platoon be wiped in a single turn for the unit to enter ongoing reserves?

If so, that kind of makes it pointless, as opponents will just cripple a unit and move on with life.

Check the rule again and see if it says anything about a single turn.

Just as soon as the last model in the unit dies or runs off the board. Note that it says model, so heavy weapons team only contributes one model

I was reading an article where the writer was of the opinion the wording meant the whole unit had to die in one turn.
