I've never seen any actual guide as to how one gets brought into the inquisition, and I'm assuming it's some sort of spooky mystery process or something, but I've never seen anything actually state the process for selecting potential inquisitors. Does anyone here know what it takes to become part of the inquisition?

I assume the questionnaire asks at least the following two questions when you apply:

1. Are you paranoid to the point your friends called you crazy and you killed them for being heretics in response?

2. Are you willing to personally sign the death warrants of a billion human lives when the situation calls for it?

Last I checked you get it by servering under an inquisitor and he/she makes you one should you prove yourself or whatever.

its long, complicated, and the last 3749 guys before you who served this guy died trying to impress him... Good Luck.

It's explained in reasonable depth in the Dark Heresy books. Essentially after long service you become an Interrogator, basically an Inquisitor-lite, and may get the promotion from your master passing it on after his death or him and his peers recognizing you.

The actual Criteria for selecting Inquisitors depends on the Inquisitor doing the selection, and I've read in older material that most of the psychic Inquisitors actually come from the Black Ships that capture psykers (which makes sense, given who oversees those things).

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Like previously pointed out, basically you ally with an inquisitor. From there on, it's basically a matter of your own desire to pursue that course. It's a fair bit politics, but mostly it's a meritocracy.

It is explained in the " the beast arises " novel series. The correct answer seems to be you are chosen by an other inquisitor. Its kinda the 40k equivalent of an elitists and secretive association.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Ironically, the selection process involves having to answer an awful lot of questions.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Also not that there isn't really such a thing as "the inquisition". Sure there is for the outside world but the inquisitors are really a lose organisation of many individuals and factions with different views.

Inquisitors are picked at random from McDonalds employees. (They still have 15,000 branches throughout the Imperium)

It is actually quite simple. There is no official recruiting process. If an Inquisitor meets competent people on his journeys, he can "invite" them to join his retinue. If you serve in an Inquisitor's retinue and are especially promising, the Inquisitor may decide to train you as his successor. Then when he dies you will take his place. You can also get promoted before that if your master deems you are ready enough.

There's a few institutions that put out candidates for Inquisitors. It's been ages so I don't remember the names, but similar to the orphan schools that handle Commisars. Of course, that's Dan Abnett's writing so similarities between Inquisitors and Commisars make sense since those are his two primary character types in the universe. Others were in fact picked up by the Black Ships when their gift/curse was seen as wasted as just feeding the Golden Throne.

So someone raised and trained in the system and molded into an ideal example of an Imperial citizen, then comes retinue work, then Interrogator and then recommended for advancement by their Inquisitor.

I've read somewhere that canoness can choose to either stay as a SoB or become an inquisitor.

In some space marine chapters, females who pass the selection process are referred to other organisations*. I suppose it isn't out of the question that a chapter working closely with the inquisition might pass such girls on to them.

Spoiler:
*chapters recruiting from hive bottoms will pit gangs of feral children against each other and as gangs are mixed gender it means some girls end up taking part in the gang fights.

Some are recruited direct from the Schola Progenium. Much like assassins, commisars, milliwahtever tempremental.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Basically what I'm getting is: "There are no hard and fast procedures that apply universally, though the inquisition is able to obtain suitable individuals to fill it's ranks effectively regardless."

There is. just claim to be one, live up to the task and murder, blackmail and plot vs anyone who dares to oppose you.

Survive Dark Heresy RPG and reach epic levels. Then you'll likely have one character who made it to the end to be badass enough to be an Inquisitor.
