So I'm looking to put together a more fun and less powerful list for my eldar and I think I'd like to use Prince Yriel. What I'd like to know is what would be the best unit to stick him in? I was thinking either some dire avengers or some wraithblades but I'd like to know what other people think. Lets just be clear on this; I understand he is far from the best HQ choice for eldar, but I like the model and he seems like fun so what would you run him with if you were to take him.

For fluff points, a unit of Wraithblades is probably what you want. I'm a big fan of Yriel. The trick will be painting all that yellow.

Post pics. I'd love to see the army.

I also agree with the wraith blades being iyanden and all.

Definitely wraithblades, they fit fluff and fit his way of operating too.

It's not exactly going to be a fluffy list, just less powerful than the usual spam scatbikes and wraithknights. I'm making a list with no S, no wks, no spiders and either no psykers or minimal psykers. It's more going to be for the fun of playing with and against, rather than fluff or for any real chance of reliable victory. I also won't be painting yellow. Yriel will be "counts as" high autarch of my craftworld.

Well, Wraithguard are still your best bet. The issue is that just about any Aspect unit you put him with is going to lose Special Rules as a result. Wraithblades, on the other hand, will actually benefit from his presence.

I've seen some really good Iyanden armies done in black with yellow details. Just sayen.

Hm, I may have to look into that at some point. For now my eldar are black and green

Also, which loadout would you suggest on his wg bodyguard? I was thinking axe and shield but is the duel sword better?

I tend to put him with some Striking Scorpions. They lose Infiltrate (and shrouded?) but the stealth and Move Through Cover still carriers over.

Game play wise I'd have to agree with the Wraithblades, T6, 4+ invul with S7/AP2 weaponry and rage make the perfect bodyguard non mounted IC, just a happy coincidence with the Iyanden theme. Getting them into combat will be the challenge...

The rest of the list should hopefully provide enough of a distraction for them to move up relatively untouched. While I'm not using bikes I'm still going to be making use of a fast playstyle with lots of transports. We also tend to play with a good amount of scenery on the board. On top of the cover and distractions in the rest of the list, we tend to play games with at least two people on each team, often three or even four so there will be plenty of targets over yriel and his guard.

Here is an article a wrote quite a while ago about him. its older but its food for thought. the meta has changed and ITC has really changed things so... It really is JUST food for thought.
