Hello fellow Dakkanites! It has been a while since I have posted a list on here but I've been meaning to get back in the game with new, fun, and competitive lists to try and this is my next project. It's an aggressive, take and lock down as many objectives as possible list. I've got a rather minimal Hunter Cadre and a Retribution Cadre which I'm hoping will do the most amount of my damage and objective holding. Basically the plan is to move up with my fire warriors onto close objectives while my Broadsides and Warlord hammer my opponents advancing units and then automatically get my turn 2 Retaliation Cadre in for more objective grabbing.
Tau Empire 7th ed Hunter Contingent 2000 points list
Hunter Contingent:
Hunter Cadre:
1 Crisis Commander (Warlord): Iridium armor, Multi-spectrum sensor suite, Command control node, Puretide engram neurochip= 160 points
3 Strike Teams: 15 Fire Warriors= 135 points
1 Pathfinder Team: 4 Pathfinders= 44 points
1 Broadside Team: 3 Broadsides, 3 Twin-linked HYMP’s, 3 Twin-linked SMS, 3 Target locks, 6 Missile drones= 282 points
1 Hammerhead: Railgun, Twin-linked SMS, Submunition rounds, Longstrike, Disruption pod= 190 points
Retaliation Cadre:
1 Crisis Commander: Cyclic ion blaster, Plasma rifle, Advanced targeting system, Target lock= 130 points
3 Crisis Teams: 3 Dual Plasma rifles, 3 Dual Fusion blasters, 3 Dual Missile pods, 6 Target locks= 690 points
1 Broadside Team: 1 Broadside, 1 Twin-linked HRR, 1 Twin-linked SMS, 2 Shield drones= 89 points
1 Riptide: Ion Accelerator, Twin-linked SMS, Early warning override, Stimulant injector= 225 points
Fortification:
1 Aegis Defense Line= 50 points
Total: 1995 points

Who is the MSS/C&CN Cmdr joining? The PR/ FB star? Great, but give him back his guns, and promote a 'Vre, giving the 'Vre the MSS/C&CN. You gain the Cmdr's ballistic skill and lose nothing.
Having a Target Lock on every suit in the two units of FBs and MPs unit is not efficient. What will 4 MP shots do from one suit?
I would reconfig your 10 suits of the Retaliation Cadre:
Cmdr - dual PRs. PEN chip
Team Alpha: 2 dual FBs. Dedicated tank/ImpKnight busters.
Team Bravo: The Plasma Star - a 'Vre with MSS and C&CN. 4 dual PR suits (Join the Irid Cmdr with 2 PRs to this unit). 6 suits (2 Cmdrs and 4 dorks) with Twin-Linked, Ignores Cover, 4 shots of AP2 love? It's rather likely to erase a 10 MEq unit every time. An ablative pair of gun drones, perhaps.
Team Chuckles: 2 other FB suits or MPs ... although I'd favor *one*, single FB suit and put the other in the Plasma Star.

Well my original idea was to have my warlord attached to the Missilesides unit. This way I would have a unit of split fire Broadsides and missile drones to give ignores cover, TL, and tank hunter/monster hunter to any unit in the vicinity that needs it with the Hunter Contingent's special rule.

The Tank Hunter is good for b-sides, but their guns are already Twin Linked (meh, TL for drones). Making a tank or vehicle Jink good, but an opponent won't Jink if he knows Ignores Cover is coming. I've heard / seen the MSS/C&CN cmdr with b-sides a lot, but not from players who take top spots.
IMHO, it is a lot of points (the Cmdr) to boost Missile Drones, and give AP4 guns Ignores Cover. To me, making an AP2 team like the XV8s packs more wallop, getting rid of an MEq unit per turn.

I've been recently looking into Tau and the various formations. I like the look of the Tau fortifcations available, but cannot find a way to take a fortification unless I take a CAD. Am I missing something within the Hunter Contingent?

... hmm. I dunno as you'd run into a problem there.
*looks at HC and CAD*
Off hand, I'd say that no, you can't have a fort with a Hunter Con. because we don't see a box labeled 'fort' like we do in the Rule Book's CAD section.
Check with your TO and see if they are going to be cool with having an ADL or whatever other Fort you like.

I wanted to be sure as the OP has a Fortification in the army, but I don't see how it is legal.

I am 99.99% sure its legal to bring an ADL in a hunter contingent.

If it is, can you point out where it is specified?

It doesn't have a slot for any fortification but why would they not include a fortification slot if they specifically gave you the rules for the Tidewall fortification. It was probably just an oversight that they completely forgot about when making the codex. I don't see why I can't take at least an ADL with a Hunter Contingent. If you find the rule that says I can't then go ahead

List illegal due to ADL, as no fort slot in hunter contingent, or any formation you took; blatantly ignore the rule make your list unbound. Look here for formations that have fort slot:

The formation that have a fort slot for a ADL is a tau CAD.

Assuming you are intending on playing a bound army, it is not legal. You can certainly run it as an Unbound army, but you would lose some benefits as explained for Unbound armies.
