G'day, so...I felt like painting lastnight, but I just couldn't quite bring myself to start painting another mob of boyz or something, I felt like a bit of a change...then I remembered I had an old necron model sitting around, that I'd acquired in some second-hand random job lot a while ago...so I decided to paint it up...I tried to go with a classic paintjob, based off the example models on the old box HERE

it was a good bit of fun to paint...I kinda wish I had more of them now, I imagine they'd be a nightmare to track down in any decent quantity these days...ah well

Cool, I've never seen one of those before! I also like the tagline on the box image you posted. "No one can tell what their sinister purpose is nor where they will strike next!"; there's something to be said for not explaining things sometimes.

Love it, I've been looking at classic Necrons a lot lately so this is great to see!

If you're wanting to paint something similar that's not so rare you might consider picking up a Classic Necron Lord; they were released as part of a later generation of Necron models but were designed to look like these old fellas, and there's quite a few of them floating around.

These guys are way cooler than the current warrior models, and your paint job did the model a great service too

You can always try ebay...there is a lot of stuff floating out there. Necrons of that era aren't particularly sought after...you might luck out.

hmm, yeah that classic lord is a pretty cool model, and does fit well with the old warriors...I just had a look around on ebay though, and only saw about 3 of them for sale at the moment...and all of them were pretty mangled, bits broken, bits missing, etc...so I'll pass for now, but I'll keep an eye open

yeah, I'll keep an eye open...not much going at the moment though, there's a couple of single warriors that would need stripping, a lot of 3 warriors and a lord missing it's staff arm, a lot of 4 old scarabs, and an as-new box of 5 "raiders" (seem identical to warriors...old name?) including 2 scarabs...none of those are at what I would call a reasonable price though

Good job on a venerable figure. I have a Necron army made from 2nd edition figures, from way back when. I think I have 3 10-man squads of those old warriors.

I literally was just thinking about old school neurons last night. He looks great! I love his chest area, really pops and defines the model.

thanks man ...yeah, I'm looking at the current-model warriors on the GW storepage now, and that colourful chest piece, along with the other little details like pistons and rivets and stuff too I guess, they just give the oldcrons so much more character, but yeah, specifically the chest-piece though...that really gives necrons some sorely needed accent colour, so it's not just a "metal skeleton"

Nice job on an old classic

They do pop up on eBay from time to time, but it's usually just in dribs and drabs... You have to be patient to piece together any sort of quantity.

I've been slowly adding to these guys over the years:

Trying to get a full squad of 10 of each of the 4 warrior poses, as it's a handy way of telling units apart from each other. And then I need to track down a bunch more Immortals to convert into the various offshoot units that weren't a thing back when these guys were made...

oh nice!...yeah, they look about as cool as I thought they would, all grouped up like that...haha...consider me slightly jealous

hmm...although that has just reminded me that I've got one of those funky old space crusade dreads too, one of the smaller ones...though I got that in a second-hand lot, and it seems to have a plasticard-rod "assault cannon" as one of it's arms...

Yeah, the Dreadnought was added in just so I could use it for something... I generally sub it in as a Heavy Destroyer.

The giant robot skull on the right will be getting some modification and a paint job to match the army, and will serve as a Monolith...

Cracking stuff. Nice to see older models get some splendid paintwork!

haha good stuff! my first thought when I saw that thing was that it'd make a real interesting monolith, what's it from anyway? I want to say terminator, but it looks a bit different to what I remember terminator heads looking like...fits with the old necrons beautifully though anyway, I look forward to seeing that when you've finished with it!

well that line almost made me spill my tea ...cheers man...hmm, speaking of old models though, I've currently got a bunch of old marines sitting the dettol...a mixed bag of RT-era marines, some metal mkVII's, a goofy RT-era dreadnought, some old metal termies, and a couple of metal mkII/III/IV dudes...hopefully I can manage to get them all stripped nice and clean and get to work painting them up all nice...I'm thinking of using them as the start of a 30k/40k imperial fists army

It's just a random resin ornament I found in a discount store, and thought it would serve... The giant skull motif just works so well with the corniness of the old Necrons.

Not sure when I'll get around to working on it as I have around about a million projects on the go right now... but feel free to keep an eye on my Dakka Blog
