So...I've thought about getting into 30k, and running loyalist Iron Warriors. I've looked a bit around, and I just wanted some advice on where to start. Also...what is phosphex? I pitched this to a co-worker, and all he would give me for advice was that one word.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Phosphex is an incendiary-chemical weapon in 30k. It has several delivery mechanisms, pretty nasty stuff.

I'd say the best way to get started is the calth box. Lots of models for the price. Like 40k you start with a HQ and 2 troops. I honestly like 1d4chan's writeup of the legion army list. Worth a read if you want an overview of all the stuff available to the army.

Iron Warriors are masters of heavy firepower and offensive siege tactics. They ignore casualties from shooting and with Perturabo they all become stubborn too. You probably want to build them using a rite of war, to maximise the amount of firepower you can field while ignoring casualties in return. Barrage and Heavy weapons galore!

According to 4chan, I can't take more HS than troops as Orphans of Betrayal. I already know about the BaC box, and am looking at it. The thing that bothers me, if you can have a viable Iron Warrior army with maybe 3 full man squads of tacticals, a siege master, and a bunch of devastators/havocs.

The captain in Terminator armour that comes with the Calth boxed set is an excellent stand-in for Erasmus Golg of the Iron Warriors, right down to his wargear and pattern of Terminator armour IIRC.

I personally turned most of the marines out of my calth box into heavy support squads. When I boarded the Heresy train back in 12' I quickly got my tactical blob sorted out so calth was a nice opportunity to fill out my support squads.

Dont use 4chan for actual advice :/

thats #1 advice

its great for a laugh or two but its mostly just a lot of lulz.

If your friends are into 30k id get them to lend you the book and check out the army list.

its still played with 40k rules so if you play marines you will know about 70%.

Iron within!
Thats basically the Iron warriors Rite of War Hammer of Olympia, you get 4 heavy slots and you can fire rapid fire weapons and charge (counts as disordered) but you need to take a minimum three troops choices and either a siege breaker or a warsmith, always take the siege breaker so you have access to phosphex and then take phosphex quad mortars, Iron Tyrants and as many Havoc squads as you want, Havocs get bs5, tank hunter, reroll armour saves against template and blast weapons and force -1 to cover for whatever they shoot at.

Yeah nothing is forcing you to play Orphans/Blackshields to play loyalist IW in 30K. Heck you can even use Glog but just rename him and make up some cool background for him.

The only thing that would be too fluff breaking for me would be taking Peturbs at all against a traitor force.
