Hey guys I was watching more trailers for dawn of war 3 and read a comment I wonder what the story will be.

Then I got to thinking about the stories of the past

DoW 1

Ork wanted a good and proper waagghh.
Space marine to save their gene seed/ home planet.
Necron kill stuff
Sister of battle exterminate planet
Chaos become demor prince
Imperal guard maintain order.
Eldar save a old craft world.


Dawn of war 2

Orks want a hat
Chaos.......
Tyranids eat stuff
Space marine ?
Imperal guard..... Build baneblades?

What do you think the story for dow 3 will be like.

Dawn of War - Blood Ravens more or less win by default, or did they?
Winter Assault - Eldar win
Dark Crusade - Blood Ravens win
Soulstorm - We do not speak of this piece of gak, though the Imperial Guard won that one

Chaos Rising - Avitus is the canon traitor
Retribution - Space Marine ending is canon, seeing as Gabriel is now the Chapter Master of the Blood Ravens

Hopefully Dawn of War 3 will start afresh and delve into a new arc now that the corruption within the Chapter has been purged. I can see the Blood Ravens going on a new crusade to show off their fealty to the Imperium, fighting orks until Eldar show up being their usual mysterious donkey-cave selves.

But who cares? There's Imperial Knights in the game, that's more than enough reason for me to get it.

Feels a bit... odd to have three characters from previous games meet up (though Gorgutz is a personal sight for sore eyes).
Maybe it might go down the Dark Crusade or Soulstorm route?

A bit curious as to who the antagonist might be, or if there is even a main antagonist for the story. Chaos, while an obvious contender seems to be awfully redundant, and Dawn of War has in the past shifted or divided the spotlight of who the, "villain," is.

Also wondering if it might do what DOW 2 did by using or mentioning events from previous games and applying them into the overarching narrative.

I thought the canon Retributionending was a mix of the Eldar/Guard/Blood Ravens?

The Eldar get the soul stone back, Thule is the million dollar man, and Merrick is still a badass.

AFAIK, there's been no word on the official Retribution ending. Comments about it here are largely due to the apparent return of Gabriel Angelos in DoW 3.

However, AFAIK, elements of all three of those endings are compatible. For instance, there's nothing to stop the Eldar from slipping in late and grabbing the soulstone. It's not as if the Imperium would be particularly interested in it, after all (aside from the Imperium's general dislike of all "Xeno artifacts").

Imperial guard did not win Soulstorm's campaign. Vance "Mother-fething" Stubbs won that campaign and the Imperial guard just followed behind him.

In terms of Dawn of War 2 and its Retribution expansion, we can now confirm its ending thanks to the DOW3 announcement. Keep out of the spoiler if you haven't played Retribution and want to play it
