Hey,

After two years of scraping mold-lines, converting, slicing open fingers, scraping away skin superglued to models, and spilling paint-water everywhere, my first ever army is now FINISHED!

I went with orcs for my first army, as I thought they'd be more forgiving to model and paint. Being a cheapskate, I also chose orcs because it was an army I could do for as little money as possibble! I went with the em4 orcs - which I now realise are very short compared to 'proper' orcs, but hey, they're 30 cents each, so I'm happy! They're all based to be used for Kings of War, but are only stuck down using blue-tack, so that way I can remove them from the base if I ever want to use the miniatures for a different game.

For anyone who's interested, here's the cost breakdown of my army: (not selling - just like showing off my cheap-skateness!)
Goblins = $60
Orcs = $22
Cavalry = $46.50
Giant = $5
Total = $133.50

Anyway, here it is. (Hmmm.... I may have gone nuts taking photos....)

The cannon fodder (goblin) unit:
Spoiler:

I used GW Moria Goblins - they're a bit slimmer than warhammer or mantic goblins, which is good, because my orcs are pretty short!

I scratch-built my catapult from sprue.

The anvil of the army:
Spoiler:

My first attempt at object source lighting:

Both the fire and the cape are made from paper towel.

The hammer:
Spoiler:

Cavalry are made from wargames factory horses and em4 orc spearmen. I made a thread about it here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/622093.page

The armour is made from cardboard:

The giant:
Spoiler:

I bought a plastic toy dinosaur and stuck cardboard to him. It worked better than I expected!

Thanks for looking!

Lach

In future, post sales threads in the subforum we provide for that purpose, thanks

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Argh! Sorry, I thought I posted this in painting and modelling showcase! I'm not selling this army.

Could a mod please move this to the right forum? I really need to pay more attention to where I'm posting!

Thanks!

I really, really like the cavalry. Very rarely do you see orcs on horses, and I think it looks really nice.

I'm on a podcast about (video) game design:

Cheap is good. I always look for bargains where I can for my fantasy armies. I once brought 200 metal orc miniatures (almost all Black Orcs and Savage Orcs) for $50 at a bring and buy - my best deal yet.

Very nicely done, reminds me of my old IG army made from EM4 troopers.
