I bought a few models to start putting together a DE army a few months ago. I started painting them, but then other Warhammer projects moved up my priority list. That said, I had painted the two Raiders and one Ravager I had. But, I decided I wanted to go a different way painting them. So, I used the Simple Green method and got as much paint off as I could and put on the new base coat.

In amongst all of that and some consolidation of my "cut off sprue, but not completely built" boxes, I seem to have misplaced one of the Dark Lances I had planned to use (can only find 4 but should have 5). Anyway, I was wondering how much of a hindrance it may be to use a Disintegrator Cannon on one of the Raiders instead. Seems like a decent weapon, but from those who have or do play DE, should I keep a lookout for a Dark Lance to show up on eBay, or would one of my soon to be three Raiders be good with a Disentegrator Cannon instead?

Thanks in advance!

Disintergrators are for; raiders transporting melee units (likely to jink, keep cheap, special weapon sniping), cheap single Ravagers (9 Str 5 Ap 2 shots for 115pts isn't terrible and scares Jetbikes into jinking) and very expensive gunboats (nightshields, splinter racks, large Kab unit) to save points.

Dark Lances are for; Raiders transporting ranged units. Ravagers IF taken in a pair, Dark Lances aren't effective enough to rely on just a single ravager.

All in all the Dark Lance isn't a great weapon, AT-wise it looses out to the Scourge held haywire blaster which is much more reliable. However Str 8 AP 2 has it's own advantages in ID T4 models and sniping MC's.

*special mention goes to the razorwing fighter that can get away with either. It can pump out all 4 missiles first turn then be an AT vehicle or it can continue it's AI role with dissies.

There are a few good breakdowns buried here and over at www.thedarkcity.net but they pretty much add up to the same thing: never take disintegrators. Dark Lance every time.
