Hey everyone
Here is my latest Blood Angels model, a Stormhawk Interceptor. I took this model as an opportunity to try out the new
GW paints -- the metallics, jewel technical paints, and gloss shades.
The weapons were shaded using the gloss shades, and I think is a pretty good example of how you can get decent results out of them. The rear part of the engines were also done with multiple layers of gloss shades, and finished with a thin layer of matte shade, then drybrushed with necron compound (since they aren't supposed to be shiny). Much of the highlighting on this model was done with Stormhost Silver (which I love!), and all of the lens were done with the new Jewel paints.
Because the Jewel paints require many layers to reach semi-opacity, I think they don't really save any time over the old-fashioned way of doing lens, but I guess it is easier, and it's easy to get them consistent. You can see on the model that the medium-sized jewels come out nicer than the little tiny ones.
Also, a shout out for hairy paintbrushes -- the white wing numbers are brushed on, not airbrushed. Why? I wanted the ridges to have consistent breaks (ie be dark red, not white). In these cases, I find that it's easier to just bite the bullet and do the 10+ layers to get the white smooth and opaque than to pull out the airbrush, and then try to get the recess back to dark red (and probably contaminate the white).
Thank you in advance for any comments and critique!
