Hi,

So, as i stated before, i recently got back in wanting to playing 40K.
I bought the imperial knights codex, and wanted to combine this
with some figurines i still had from back in the day.

This is what i have until now, the goal here for me is to make a 1000pts guard list.

All my figures are catachan jungle fighter models, because this is what i bought and liked back when.

HQ.

1 Company command squad
-1 bolter
-1 standard bearer

Troops.

10 Veterans
-2 plasma guns
-1 Lascannon
-1 Chimera w/ heavy flamer ( Fluff reasons, catachan )

10 Veterans
-3 flamers

10 Veterans

Rest.

Now i still have the following: 1 Sentinel, 2 heavy weapons teams ( 2 heavy bolter )

I read the heavy bolters are not really what people do anymore, but this is what i have
glued up back in the day.

My question now is, what would be the next step, for example i would really like to play an
imperial knight, but don't know if this is worth the money investment with the stuff i have currently,
it would also mean that this stuff i have above would be around 480-500 pts.

1 thing i am considering is to just get an stock chimera for one of my vets-squad and include an Paladin or
Crusader IK, this to cover the bases i am now missing ( Hard hitting tankbustas )

Thanks for the help!

The main problem is that your upgrades right now don't make any sense. What is a command squad with a bolter and a standard or a naked veteran squad accomplishing? Command squads get 4x melta or 4x plasma in a Chimera or Vendetta, veteran squads get 3x melta or 3x plasma in a Chimera or Valkyrie. Once you have the core of BS 4 melta/plasma spam you can start thinking about what support units you want to include, usually in the form of tanks or aircraft.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Flailing on the beach like a beached whale. While also wearing fashionable panties.

So, after the above post being filled with positivity and helpfulness, I think I just want to say good luck with getting back into 40k at such a bad time.

For one, right now, Imperial Guard are not a very powerful army. They have potential, but that potential is mostly through numbers.

Now, personally, I would never get a Knight with less than 1.5-1.75K points, because they are actually quite bad by themselves with very little backing them up, ie, what would happen if you included them in your army as it is.

So, my only advice I can give you, is that you should build up on your Guard army for now, get it to a point where you like how it looks, and don't worry at the upgrades as much. Build it as you want, being fluffy or competitve, and then, after you have maybe a solid 50-60 men in your army, get a chimera or two so they can move around on the board. Footslogging Guardsmen and/or Jungle fighters almost never goes well.

Once you do that, A Knight will definately be a fun thing to include in your army. And I personally choose a Paladin.

Cheers,
Vanden.

TheEyeOfNight I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes.
Tactical_Spam Vanden clearly loves making sweet sweet love to his school. He is the most passionate, learning oriented individual you will ever meet.
War Kitten You should ask nicely before hitting people with your stick Vanden. We're a polite society after all.
2BlackJack1 Snow is great though. Snowmen, snowball fights, frostbite, snow forts, what's not to love?
Kharne the Befriender It's just the smug look of eternal irony while you wait for Creed to pull out his Baneblade so you can steal it.
War Kitten I love how this has gone from a deathly serious war to a discussion about how Vanden is secretly a whale wearing panties. Welcome to the Crusade of Fury.
Irishpeacockz Well this crusade will be endless then as I imagine Vandan has a large collection of inflatables lying around

Yep. You like guard? Paint and collect guard. Screw the meta and the silliness. You'll need to find players/a gaming environment with similar interests.

Before we can help you, we need to know what sort of opponents you'll be facing. I agree with Peregrine that your upgrades are rather all over the place. My advice is to always focus one squad on one thing. Never mix special weapons in a squad. Always go naked or full melta/plasma.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

Already read that somewhere, i will not include a knight then since its too big an investment without a real payoff.

My next investment is probably gonna be some transport/ guards.

Thanks already

Cobleskill

consider the advisors blister for your CCS. The Astropath is a psyker with access to Shriek, but my favorite is the Master of Ordnance that turns your CCS into a Basilisk.
