Subject: Trying to categorize models into sizes - not so easy as it looks

For my alternative ruleset I've come up with a new characteristic called General Size.
- Swarms will be size 1.
- Models up to Terminator/Bike size will be size 2.
- Dreadnoughts/most tanks/many Monstrous creatures will be size 3.
- Defilers/Land Raiders/Sicaran Battle tanks will be size 4.
- Imperial Knights/Wraithknights will be size 5.
If we ignore their rules as they are now, which size would you allocate to
- Centurions
- Models on the oval bases which are somewhat bigger than Dreadnought bases. (would it be wrong to categorize these models with the same size because they use the same size base?)
My own suggestion would be to let Centurions stay at size 2 and let those models on oval bases be size 4 as I think that Forgefiends/Trygons etc. are closer to Defilers and Land Raiders than Dreadnoughts and Carnifexes, but I'm in much doubt.

#1: I would think a space marine on a bike should be a size larger than a space marine with nothing.
#2: What's the point of this?

As I wrote, it's part of an alternative ruleset, where the General Size characteristic is used in the Shooting phase and Assault phase.

I think vehicles that aren't tanks or flyers are in one category, and then tanks, MCs, and flyers are in the next size up. I think from the perspective of a scout titan, a land raider and a chimera are about equivalent sizes. That also makes it easy to use the units data sheets as they are, if you aren't making new entries for every unit affected. that would also mean infantry, bulky, and extra bulky are all different sizes.

I think your categories are structured a little oddly.
Without knowing your full rules, I’d probably take everything in 4 and 5 and combine them. Add a new level between 2 and 3. Put things that are bigger then a guy, smaller then a dread in there. Bikes and cents being the two main ones.
With the system as you’ve laid it out:
Cents should be 3. They are significantly bigger then men/bikes, really almost dread sized.
I’m not sure what oval bases you are talking about. And probably a lot depends on the model in question; not everyone fills the base the same. But if you are talking about the oval bases used for flyers, I’d probably round up to 4. Those are pretty big. Anything smaller is probably a 3.

I agree that Centurions are almost Dreadnought sized, that's why I'm in a dilemma and asking if people think that Centurions are closer to Terminator size or Dreadnought size.
Models like the Forgefiends, Maulerfiends, Trygons and Haruspexes are on oval bases; do you think that these are closer to Dreadnought size than Defiler/Land Raider size?
If Centurions should be categorized as the same size as a Dreadnought, then Forgefiends, Maulerfiends, Trygons and Haruspexes shouldn't. On the other hand, if Centurions are categorized as the size below Dreadnoughts (I will not make an additional size between normal infantry and Dreadnought size) this opens up for models on the big oval bases to be categorized as the same size as Dreadnoughts.

Is there any reason why you only use 1 to 5 for model size?

I actually use 1-8 but 6-8 are Titan sizes. The rules use these "General Sizes" and the way they're designed, along with the scale of the game, determined how I divided model sizes.
