Another example of GW releasing free rules for 40k! Orks are still not competitive, but at least they're throwing you guys a bone here. Really impressed with the current direction of GW.

I'm quite happy with a lot of what they've been doing lately, they seem (at least to me) to be really trying to do some nice things for their player base. It's not much, but it's something

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

A looted wagon is 37 points? are they serious?

Couldn't they round it to either 35 or 40?

Well, not that it matters. its not armored worth a damn, and its not dedicated transport for anything. nobody will bother spending a HS slot on this.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Should have been a dedicated transport.

Wait aren't they just re-releasing the white dwarf rules from years back here? The points are even the same. It's been in Battle Scribe for as long as I can remember...

You are correct this is a re-release from the WD.
The wagon is exactly the same as the initial release.

Yep: WD JUNE 2014 Issue 21
See Page 60.

So yeah, they ARE getting better with releasing some free stuff but that is not the case here.

It's actually a re-release of the freebie giveaway from their news app which was a re-release of the White Dwarf.

This is the second time this has been given away for free.

This is what the "Trukk" should have been. And it should still only cost 30pts.

I think it is just that thing of being irritating stating something is "new" when in fact it is not.

I applaud effort, not so much for re-hashing old stuff.

They never claimed it was "new". The blog post actually points out that they are old rules that were available in WD, they are just releasing them online. Now you don't have to go looking through back issues of WD trying to remember which one it was in.

The true fact is that GW could be fair and give the option of choose any tank from the game, using their weapons and choices in addittion ork vehicle stuff. Of course slowing balistic skill xD

That way was on the past and was coooool. This "new" looted wagon has 0% looted. I mean, it has zero elements from the original, they could name "mek trukk" and will be the same

It is an open topped rhino for two points more and you can put a battle cannon on it.

What more do you freakin want?

Its a 37pt open topped trukk that has 1 more armor then a normal trukk, it has the ability to take a massively over priced weapon that sucks. What more do I want? Something that doesn't suck.

Does a rhino take a HS slot to field?
And the point with the 37 is that it's a silly and unwieldy number.

Also the killkanon is very much NOT a battle cannon. The difference between blast and large blast is noticeable, so is the massive range difference.

Killkannon is large blast guys.

and massively overpriced?

wagon+killkannon+reinforced ram= 72 points.

I dunno that doesn't sound like an investment to me. Its not supposed to do what a leman russ does, its supposed to keep something safe for a few turns and killing a bunch of marines is just a bonus.

Its a good unit because it encourages modeling which is what most orks players enjoy orks for.

Odd, battlescribe shows it as just blast.
Well, in that case the gun is decent enough (still short range)
Still don't solve the issue that it's a HS paper thick transport that nothing can take as dedicated

So what you are saying is the vehicle that GW doesn't sell a model for has sub par stats ? SHOCKER.

67 points for what's essentially a battlecannon is not bad at all if you have a spare heavy support slot. Think of it as essentially a Mek Gun by another name.

I'll stick to my house rules for Looted Vehicles, quite happy with how they turned out and my friend who plays Orks loves them.

If anyone want them I'll upload the battlescribe rules up here, it changes Looted Wagons into a category "Looted Vehicles", with options for either Tanks at 95pt starting cost, or wagons, for 40pts (Because that wound me up also)

The main difference is that the Tank has no transport capacity (the Wagon does, even with Killkannon and 'Ard Case, so think of them more as discount BW's) but for that tradeoff comes with higher armour, an option for higher armour still at 30pts, and many more weapon options, themed around an Orky spin off of the more common Leman Russ variants.

A battle cannon with -1 Str, and an even shorter range on a paper-thin chassis that has a chance of being force to go Flat Out instead of shoot in any given shooting phase that also takes up one of the most contested slots in the Ork codex, competing with the much superior Mek Gunz and Lootas.

AV 11 vehicle that is OPEN TOPPED, can pay 30 points for a S7 AP3 large blast that has a range of 24in. My Battle Wagons have a hard time using the KillKannon because it is so short ranged and doesn't make up for its range issues by having the strength/AP to hurt much.

Furthermore everyone except 1 person seems to be forgetting, every turn that Looted wagon has a 1/6 chance to be forced to flat out.

If I could take Kill Kannons as Mek Gunz I wouldn't the range is just to short to be useful in almost any situation.

*But what about demolisher cannons, they are Range 24 as well!* Yep they are, they are also S10 and AP1/2? Furthermore even those things are hardly ever used because they die rather quickly.

open topped so it is less durable, also minus 2 BS and it does not come with a gun at all.

on the open topped front it does gain assault vehicle so sure that offsets the vuneability but the rest means it really should cost less than a rhino. 30 points base and should be able to be taken in units of up to 3 ,models that act independently otherwise nobody would rally take them because they use a HS slot, that or make them a fast attack option and a dedicated transport option like trukks.

really the issue is everything the orks have (and I literally mean everything) is over points cost for what it does. They were somewhat competitive in 4th and 5th but only because of wound allocation shenanagins and access to cheap 5++. This rerelease of rules that were already everywhere really is not going to change that. hopefully they get somebody who plays orks or actually likes orks to make their codex next go round ( have at least 20k points in painted and shelved orks that are unplayable at the moment)

10000 points 7000
6000
5000
5000
2000

Does the fact that it takes a heavy support matter anymore considering cads and stuff really make all that irrelevant now a days?

Forces you to take more troop tax. That's 80 pts or so(plus whatever HQ) for every detachment of useless crap.

And if you take 2 detachment for 6 HS why spend HS to this when there's better HS choices available.

3 pts plus ork needed to lead so about 40 pts per squad. Ergo 80 pts wasted crap. Ork troops are useless junk so the more you have to take them the less points you have for something that might actually kill something

I run dual cad pretty much any time I run my orks. Kilkannon/Ram LWs are a really solid choice, pretty much competing only with Mek Gunz for dominance of the HS slot.

What, are you running Killa Kanz in that slot? Battlewagons? Ick.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I like looted wagons a lot. Not for being a gun platform (It kinda sucks at that being mid range av11 open topped) but for being a better transport option then a truck.
The only downside about them is them eating up heavy slots.

Loota's and mek guns all things shooty are in the heavy slot now and I can't take those due to looted wagons.
My alternative now is just not to use traditional heavy slot stuff and ally in some renegade guards instead : \
