Hello there

So I'm fairly new to 40k and have a small Dark Angels army, I have a 750 skirmish tournament coming up and im trying to figure out the best combinaion to go with and some help would be appreciated because the guys i'm playing have played it for years and I cant seem to beat them despite what I take...

I need to take stuff that is going to hold objectives until the end, I know I will be coming up against Space Wolfs, Ultra Marines, Necrons, imperial guard, Tau & Tyranids

I played with boots on the ground, last time and 3 whirlwinds and I got absolutly slaughtered

I took

Scout Squad
3 x Tactical Squads with Flame Throwers
Devastater Squad 2 las cannons and 2 rockets
3 x Whirlwinds
Techmarine

This worked quite well unfortunately my troops kept getting taken out by psychic powers...

This is what im thinking for my next round

Belial
Deathwing Terminator Squad w flamer
Scout Squad w snipers
2 x tactical squads 1 w drop pod
Assault marines

The one thing that lets termies down is the fact they cant assault on the turn they come in unless theres a way to do this, were alos limiting time round to 50 mins / 3 turns

Any help would be appreciated, we have to use a CAD formation, otherwise I would take battle demi company...

I prefer the first list to the second. It looks like the second list takes a lot of bolt weapons (bolters, storm bolters, bolt pistols, etc.) with not much else to offer. You're only AT is the terminators power fists and they are relatively easy to avoid, especially with them having no LR delivery - don't get me wrong, no scatter DS is nice, but I find it works better on shooty terminators for some rear armour fun.

I have had relative success running the list above as a TAC list at 750

Dark Angels (750)
HQ
Libby - bike, shroud of heroes (95)

TROOPS
5 Tac - flamer, combi-plas (80)
5 Tac - flamer, combi-plas (80)

ELITES
DWCS - champion, apothecary, 2 claws, AC (230)
Ven Dread - hvy flamer, AC (145)

FAST ATTACK
3 RWBK (120)

The Librarian runs solo making the most of the 2+ rerollable cover save. Choice of discipline is up to you but I like telepathy - shriek is always always nice (which you will auto get bc of psychic focus), and so are many of the other powers. Props if you get invis Excellent lols come when moving out from cover, shrieking, then turbo boosting back out of LoS

The command squad runs with those upgrades simply partly because of the models I have. Apothecary is essential, I find the assault cannon useful (don't forget split fire ), and the claws and company champ are there for some low AP attacks at initiative.

Generally I'm not a fan of mixing and matching roles in squads (I'd be running all las in the dev squad in for list for example), however I find the flamer/combi-plas combo to be quite good at low points. The plas it there as a one-off to strip wounds off a nearby threat and the flamer is great for horde control and defensive use in overwatch. Sit these guys on objectives and you'll be right.

The Black Knights are my favourite unit at low points. The brunt they bring is HUGE for their measly points cost - I have previously run 3 units of 3 at 600pts to great effect. Just point shoot and charge with these guys and you can't go far wrong

If you're worried about grabbing objectives, I wouldn't. The tacs should be fine hanging back in cover; your enemy will more pressing concerns to worry about (read: dread, BK, DW), and the bikes (should they survive) and Libby (he will survive) are nice and fast for picking up / contesting late-game.

Terminators are not competitive at 750 points. What other models do you have access to? How much Ravenwing? Transports?

I would probably go:

Librarian, ML2, Bike, Shroud of Heroes

3x Ravenwing Command Squad
3x Ravenwing Command Squad

5x Tactical Marines, Melta, Combi-Melta, Drop Pod
5x Tactical Marines, Plasma, Combi-Plasma, Rhino

Attack Bike, MM
Darkshroud

Darkshroud gives the bikes a 2+ Jink save and you can use the Rhino to block line of sight. Drop Pod can be replaced for another Rhino but for Melta squads, I prefer DS into place due to short range, regardless of Chapter.

I like this. Would consider taking a plasma cannon rather than gun as moving/shooting is not an issue if you stay in the rhino and plasma cannons pose a greater threat at 750 imo

If the Rhino moves the occupants count as moving for the purposes of shooting, likewise if you disembark, so I'd suggest Frozocrone's setup with the plasma gun.
