Here's a rendition of the old version of the Despoiler. With Forge World's newer rendition of him (in their Horus Heresy line) it is easy to overlook the older one.

For one thing, he's smaller than you would expect from a character in terminator armor- but he fit right in back when he was first introduced... about twenty years ago.

For the record, credit for the base belongs to my client. Anyway, here he is:

Man... I feel old. I remember when he was a new release. He was huge compared to the standard chaos terminators. All the more hilarious because he shipped with a 25mm base. Awesome work as always. Did you do anything special with the blacks?

Great work, the evil is dripping out of the armor

The ice / bright powerword looks good and you didn't do the "Airbrush OSL over the top". Subtle and shocking.

Same. I remember when the wd came out with him in and I loved it, I saved all my pocket money for the next month (I didn't get much) and was banging on the door of my then local gw store on his release date. It's a very special model for me, and you have done a great job on him.

I've been in this as long as you guys. I was crazy excited about the Chaos Space Marines codex that came out far later than I would have liked (I had a chaos army running out of the Codex Imperialis for a long time).

I found it most interesting to read the designer logs from (I believe) Andy Chambers. GW's designers didn't know what to do with Chaos, and the Imperialis list had every sort of Daemon, Beastman and Cultist and stuff. The 2nd ed Codex was the first time they really focused on the Space Marines, and gave additional background (sometimes contradicting previous fluff) for every original traitor legion.

It was glorious.

And Abaddon wasn't short back then. Which I don't get- Ragnar Blackmane is older than him (actually end of Rogue Trader days) and his mini is still massive.

I don't remember anything particularly special about them. The black provided a convincing starting point for OSL effects (as did the very dark metals that work so well on Abaddon).

Thanks. I find the airbrush OSL doesn't look very much like the mini is actually being lit by the object. Really, because most of the time they end up lighting spots that would definitely be shadowed from the light source.

Yea airbrush OSL works in reverse actually when you think about it. The airbrush itself is what is projecting the light(color spray) rather then the surface you are aiming at, which is why it so often looks awful and cheap, to do it correctly with an airbrush is no easier then doing it by hand since you need to try to shoot from the object that is lit and generally need a fine needle from something like a Sotar 20/20.

Awesome job! I still have my midget and retinue, I moved them the other day and they took me back to a time when he seemed massive and menacing

Looks excellent...and while the mini was a little over the top, you've done it a lot of justice. Well done!

Scale creep is amazing sometimes.

I once did a group of ogryns with one old one in the mix. He must have been a child or something.
