Afternoon people iv recently picked up Warhammer 40k again. I collected a few years ago and was collecting necrons (before they were OP) and orks. Now im back with a new army the Tyranids. Below is the list iv created and purchased except from the warriors. Could I please get some advise on what armies this is good against and what will wreck me, how I could improve on this list and how you would use them compared to how I plan on using them explained below.

Hive Tyrant

. Wings
. X2 Twin Linked Devourers with Brainleach

Points: 230

Forward Line

X1 Venomthrope 45P

X2 Zoenthrope
100P

X18 Hormagaunts
90P

X18 Hormagaunts
90P

Back Line

X1 Exocrine
170P

X3 Biovores
120P

X1 Tyranid Warrior Brood ( Contains x3 warriors, x2 have basic Venom Cannon)

X1 Venomthrope 45P

1000Points

Formation im using is Living Artillery Node.

As you can tell my attack plan is get the artilllery in range and rain fire while my Hive Tyrant causes trouble and my forward line move up and get into close combat.

So this is my 1000 point army. Any advise and help that can be given I would appreciate. If you would like some pictures I can also post them.

Your format is a bit wonky, but looks like you are running a CAD with LAN. That last Venomthrope your third elite slot?

Only one Warrior per brood can have a Venom cannon, or did you mean 2 devourer and one Venom Cannon?

I would really swap one brood of hormagant for termigaunts. 3 across the board just does not do that much damage. Or better drop a Venomthrope, split the Zoanthrope, add a third troop brood of Termigaunt. The VT and Zoan can not keep pass with the Hormie broods so you will need the extra 2 points to be getting dominion off for the fearless charges.

Thank you barnowl for the advise. Layout was abit off as I wrote this on my phone but you are correct in what you say im going with a CAD with a LAN. I did not know that you could only have x1 venom cannon in a squad so thats good to know. I like the idea of dropping the venom as in the open it will only get a +5 cover save with shrouded and splitting the zoen for the extra 2 psykic points. Bring termagaunts aswel will give me a better chance at holding objectives aswel. Do you like my battleplan or do you think there is a way of getting more out of my troops?

Play style preference from me would probably peel 5 hormie off each brood for a third one, and a total of 4 troop slots. I play mostly maelstrom, so use the hormie as fast moving objective grabbers.

In EW missions, be careful what you hit with the Hormie's they are only S3 after all, so don't toss them at deathstars. The big change to your plan I would make is to set the LAN near the middle of the board to get the most use of the Exocrine. BS4 when not moving is huge in a nid army. Remember CC is not as effective as shooting in 7e, so always watch and play for objectives.
