When creating an army, can you use forces from the Hobbit with forces from LOTR? For example, could I have say Gimli with some Dwarven Rangers in the same army with Thorin and some Grim Hammers? Or do you have to stick with the timeline so to speak? Could I use Goblin Town Goblins with a Mordor Troll? Sorry to ask such a basic question, but to the best of my knowledge there are no players in my area to ask.

Speaking of, is there another forum for this game that is more active or has a player finder?

I only model and paint LOTR stuff these days, my knowledge not where it used to be with regards to the gaming side of things, but until someone else chimes in this thread may be of some use...

It all runs on warbands, which aren't restricted by time period. What heroes you take determines what warband choices you can select. So for example, if I take Gil-Galad, I can take up to twelve High Elf Warriors. If I then wanted to, I could take Denethor and up to ten choices from the Gondor army list, and Durin and ten choices from his army list.

One Ring and Last Alliance used to be the biggest ones, but all have died down. You'll probably see as much activity in this forum as you will anywhere that isn't facebook.

The Great British Hobbit League facebook page is very active, and Adam Troke posts there. They also release their own (exceptional) magazine for SBG.

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

One Ring is my other haunt, it has "frequent" posting by GBHL Damian/Grant?. They are about as active as we are here, but the best way to get activity is to have stuff to be active about. The activity levels increase pretty significantly if there is something compelling to post about.

Looking to get my first models this weekend. I got the mini-rulebook a week ago. And I found the big rulebook on eBay for $30 so I should have it in a week or so. I am excited. I just hope I can paint them decently.

As someone else mentioned, the latest rules use "warbands" to organize list building. If you have a Hero from the Durin's Folk list (eg. Gimli) you can field up to 12 Warriors from the Durin's Fold list (Dwarven Rangers). Same with Thorin and the Grim Hammers. For the Goblintown Goblins and a Mordor Troll, though, you would also need a Goblintown Hero (the King, Grinna or a Captain) for the Goblintown warband, and a Mordor Hero (named character or generic captain) from the Mordor list. You can combine any "good" warbands from any other "good" list in LOTR or The Hobbit (Durin's Folk and Erebor). Likewise any "Evil" warband with any other "Evil" warband (Goblintown & Mordor). Good and Bad are the only hard restrictions in list building.

TLA is pretty slow these days, but the One Ring forum is still fairly active, with a lot of long time players still there. IMO its about the best resource on the internet these days.

If you prefer your news in video format, subscribe to the GBHL channel on Youtube. They do a lot of new, discussion and tournament reporting.

Awesome. Both are very cool model lines and very dynamically different. Best of luck to you!
