As per the topic, does anyone know of a place to acquire very small bell jars? Ideally I'd like them to be able to fit neatly on a standard base for a 28mm model, but that may be a tall order.

You mean a 28mm scale bell jar? or a bell jar that will fit over a 28mm model?

You may have some luck looking at light bulbs.
It'll take a bit of work to remove the fitting and cutting the glass and the electrics but that's the only thing I can think of.

Yep otherwise cut your own test tubes. in plastic or glass.
If you are talking a bell jar that is in miniature scale for a model, then again lightbulbs or lego clear dome piece.

Shot glasses? You might be able to get disposable plastic ones in clear. Might be big enough.
If you just want something to protect it, a lot of dice come in little bricks. One of those might serve.
