Subject: Using Raptors and Lias Issodon

Hi all,
Been playing around with using Raptors a Death watch allies for my scions and inquisitor for the past and just wondering how else people use them.
I really enjoy using Lias as he brings quite a few tools to the force rather than just being a beat stick which feels a bit better for an elite force in my opinion.
His warlord trait seems to be the star of the show being able to infiltrate 3 units along with rerolling reserves which suits scions well., I've taken to bringing 1 units of grav centurions along as there is a fir bit of synergy between them a lias with him helping with their lack of invulnerable saves by passing on shrouded and them giving majority toughness 5 and slow and purposeful for his salvo gun. I'm struggling with what to bring along as the other 2 units, using 2 squads of 5 sternguard with combi grav as infiltrate plus scout should allow them to be in range of something for the first turn, and afterwards they don't need to worry about being unable to move as the weapons are only one shot, they are very squishy however so I'm wondering if I should replace them with command squad with Apothecaries for the FnP, either unit appears flavourful for the Deathwatch fluff.
I've heard mention of using lias with a caliidus assassin for rerolling seize and his sabotage ability pairing well the assassin throwing a nasty flame template anywhere on the board, anyone have experience with this combination and is it worth the points?
Finally anyone have experience of using them with a nemesis strike force for allies? Rerolling reserves again would be handy but wondering whether I'd be better infiltrating 2 units of multimelta devastators or 2 full units of purifiers as a way to effectively field them. In this case would you then be able to combat squad the purifiers allowing you to keep the psycannons stationary mid field and advance the other half to cleansing flame or do the 2 combat squads count as different units for the purposes of deployment?

You'd be better off infiltrating a single squad of Purifiers. The average number of a D3 will be two, so always plan for two infiltrations: a Devastator Centurion squad for him to go in and the Purifiers you talked about.

I could be mistaken but fairly sure 7th edition master of ambush give infiltrate to warlord and 3 units rather than d3 I could be mistaken though.

I must've been thinking about the CSM trait. My bad.

Lias Issodon is great! Obviously Grav centurions with his infiltrate is a no brainer, but many other units love it as well. Personally, I infiltrate some tactical marines with Grav-Cannons, fills the troop requirement and they are basically like Scouts with infiltrate+Raptor chapter tactics.
Lias brings allot to the show, don't discount the -1 to enemy reserves, or re-rolls for you and his pre-game attack. Shrouding is icing on the cake, really makes his unit hard to kill in cover if the enemy lack ignore cover weapons.
You can really base an army around him, personally I run a fun list with him (Raptors+Legion Of the Damned), but Lias could probably easily feature in some competitive lists. His only issue, is not currently fitting into Space Marine formations. If Forgeworld addressed this issue, then maybe Raptor Battle companies could be a competitor to White Scars.

It's a very good way to put Salvo weapons into position.
Grav Cannons, Volleyguns, etc.

I'd completely forgotten about legion of the damned, pity to miss out on objective secured but their raft of special rules tips them over scions, think I'll keep fielding scions for the aesthetic and for the fluff of fielding an Ordo force but I can see me using spare marines as counts as legions of the damned for a pure infantry marine list. Any advice on fielding them? Guessing melta/multimelta or plasma/plasma cannon make the most use of their abilities.
Hadn't really considered tacticals either as I wanted my MEQ to be a bit above the rank n file to fit the deathwatch feel, but you make a good call with the tacticals getting close enough to use the grav effectively and the rending bolter rule stopping those bolter shots going to waste. Saves me a few points on the sternguard and the larger squad size woul be more survivable will have to have a play around.

I run my legion of the damned as 5 man squads, Multi-Melta, meltagun and combi grav on the sarge. Good tank hunters and the combi grav gives them some flexibility in target choices. They can use Lias locator beacon in a pinch as well, although their own deep strike rules are fairly reliable. I'd say you could easily use them as stand in for deathwatch with all their special rules.
Tactical marines do a job with infiltrate, I run three full ten men squads with Grav Cannon, grav gun and combi grav. They make for a good chunk of objective secure, that can kill most targets. That is more for fun though, you'd be better off with two 5 man tac squads with a grav cannon to fill out the mandatory troop slots and a unit of grav centurions to go with Lias if you're thinking competitive.

I ran a LIIIIASSS ISODON list with my GK for a bit... he's a lot of fun and great for reserve manipulation/infiltration shenanigans.
I'd say his biggest benefit is helping GK get around EWO/interceptor equipped armies by infiltrating units into cover. His native shrouding is great, and the "tax" of two bolter scout units are actually very handy in a boots on the ground needy army like GK. Being able to much improve your odds of bringing in reserves while dicking over your opponents is essential.
Usually I used him to infiltrate dreadknights so I could save their shunt move for late game... but I think the better play is getting other units in position and shunting the dreadknights or deep striking them.
OH - don't forget his teleport homer. That's zero scatter for anything deepstriking within 6" of him - much better than the terminator limited teleport homer.
The whole reason I grabbed him was to infiltrate purgators up close - this was cooler in theory than practice though : ( ...
Overall, he's a great, fun toolkit. And a real bastard in H2H when hammerhand has gotten off.
I modeled him as an inquisitor by the way, with bolter scout acolytes : )
