Happy 240th!



Grilled out and had friends over yesterday. Did two racks of ribs and then:




Bacon wrapped 'beer can burgers' with bacon wrapped onion rings. Had those on fresh pretzel buns! Stuffed the burgers with pepper jack and cheddar and bacon pieces (already cooked). First time I ever tried those and DAMN! they were great!

Today have a friend coming over to go kayaking, and then this evening gonna let Daughter blow off some fireworks.

Prepping for a cookout here. Just made my grandfather’s recipe for potato salad, and am working on burger prep now. Doing stuffed burger roulette. Although the odds are stacked this year. In years past, I’ve stuffed burgers with a variety of thing in assorted combinations. Normally one cheese (cheddar, swiss, blue) and one “other” (bacon, mushrooms, jalapenos). The jalapenos are what make it roulette, and there was generally only one or two out the the dozen burgers. This year I’m phoning it it. All cheddar, and half bacon, half jalapeno.

Still need to prep some chicken and boil bratwurst in some beer. People should be here in about an hour.

Looks to be a perfect day out.

Going to the Rose Bowl tonight for "America Fest" which will feature motocross, a big honkin' fireworks display and NASA broadcasts from the Juno mission to Jupiter. Should be a fun evening!

Fireworks Display was rescheduled for tomorrow night, due to rain.

I swear every year twice a year (4th. of July and New Years) it is like a warzone here.

Burning 6 lbs of beef, four kielbasa strings and a lb of bacon for 11 people.
More importantly we're having Kentucky bourbon, Tewlamore Dew Irish Whiskey and good old American Margaritas.

Then we'll step outside and watch the fireworks from the front lawn.

Not going as high class on the meats. Burgers, Dogs, Sausages, and Chicken here. Will have roughly the same amount of folks over.

Gotta say, I'm a little irked that the 101st decided to do Fri-Mon instead of Sat-Tue for the weekend. I'm gonna be hurtin tomorrow...

I try to make the meal worth eating whenever I have folks over. Made the bacon explosion con queso and smoked shrimp (bacon wrapped and regular) a few weeks ago when we had folks over.





If it is worth doing, it is worth doing right!

Grilling burgers and brats today, and then might go photograph/film some more fireworks tonight (even though I did last night already).
