In my journey to convert my Ultramarine collection into Formations, I've hit a snag on my single Stormtalon. Without enough units to create an Allied Detachment or CAD, I'm going to find a Formation with which to attach it to my Gladius. I'm looking more into the smaller ones, with less purchase requirement.

Thus far, the main ones I've found are the Raptor Wing (2x Stormtalons and Land Speeder) or the St Tylus Task Force (Cassius, 1+Tyrannic War Vets and 0-6 Stormravens).

Which of these is generally better, and is there any other Formations with Stormtalons I've missed? (Note that I am aware of Stormraven + 2x Stormtalons, but I'm not prepared to get another Stormtalon and Raven - the cheaper, the better.)

There is a Flyer detachment in Death from the Skies that let's you use them by themselves. Gives them On Sec too due to Hover.

Huh, is it literally called a Flyer detachment? Or is there a different name or something?

Its called an Air Superiority Detachment. They have to be in a Flyer wing but otherwise operate the same.

Without using death from the skies I believe the best formation you can take a storm talon is the raptor wing.

2 individual storm talons and a land-speeder squadron. The land-speeder can spot targets for the talons - giving them some sort of buff but honestly- you are probably better off just giving the LS a TML and shooting with it than moving it up the feild to get blasted.
