Okay, I am a bit new to 7th as last time I played Imp guard was late 3rd early 4th?, and just bought a 7000 ish point army from a friend. I plan on Using the Montka because it reminds me of how awesome Cadia was when the update for them came out. played a few mixed games of dying a lot or dying slightly less than a lot. My buddy uses tau and is a super power gamer and loves murdering me, but turn 2 as I re-learn the game, but I would like to win while developing my own all comers list. I was wondering how this list would do and if you guys could help me build a stronger list using Montka and still being able to throw in the Cadian grunt that I love so much. Or should I just vet melta slag everything and give up on normal troopers for now?

(Random list I made for fun but would also like pointers on this) Sentinel time! I like this one it feels like it will be fun to play but im wondering some pointers and should I put all auto cannons on the armored sentinels?
Spoiler:
HQ Pask, punisher, lascanon, Meltas. Body gaurd Exterminator las and meltas.
Armored Fist formation. HQ Vanquisher lascanon and camo with body gaurd same load out.
Demolisher with HB Front
Executioner lascanon and plasma sides.
2 battle tanks HB front
Enginseer and 1 serv.
Emps Talon recon.
3 scout sents
3 armored sents Hq lascnon and 2 plasma sents.
Infantry platoon
2 squads and a comander.

I think a good buy would be Kabes Herald I think it's called(the tank commander relic). Put it in the armoured fist and use it for strike and shroud turn 1 on all your tanks for a bit of survival into turn two.

Also id switch the executioner amd the exterminator to benefit from pasks PE to increase the deadlyness of the plasma.

. Apart from that it seems a pretty solid list with some interesting ways to draw the enemy in close to deal with the tanks then outflank with the sents to hit rear armour.

Another idea might be heavy flamers on the scout sents to get in behind enemy lines and take care of cover campers on an objective.

I wouldn't even bother with the infantry platoons, you can bring your HQ requirement as a tank commander. Vanquishers are a mixed bag... most people find they don't have enough shots (at a good enough BS) to make a solid contribution (compared to say a vendetta, with 3 TLLC shots). I think most of the tanks have a place in the army... exterminator is cool because it's cheap... the destructive power of the executioner is well documented.. pask'isher is awesome. I think taking alone cheap Primaris Psykers is a must -- that precience is invaluable. Buy that Enginseer a Trojan Supp Vehicle (FW -- but it's basically a chimera), it gives PE (EVERYTHING) and POTMS (basically) and can heal HPs. If you're running an armored list, maybe consider cheesing it up with a librarius conclave from the SM and bring technomancy.. could be fun. Sentinels can be... annoying, i guess, for the enemy.. but even small arms can bring them down pretty easily. I also suggest not spending too much on sponsons.. you could probably drop a bunch of those hull weapons off and buy yourself a whole 'nother tank (which I find to be more valuable)

MY HQ is a Tank commander being Pask and the formation is a Vanq hq. The Armored Fist formation gives all the Russes in 12 inches of my Vanquisher commander a BS of 4 so my Vanq do pretty well also I would kill for a Trojan but my gaming group hates FW. about the infantry.. I just love them so much!!!! okay!? the Cadian guard are so cool..I know I shouldn't have them but..I LOVE THEM!! if I did get rid of the sponsons what other tanks should I take.

That said I will build I should suck it up and build a real competitive list. so here is the army my friend sent me. Any ideas?

Basically the brown are meant to be vets. Plenty of Melta and Plasma to go around. I have about 5 squads of Storm troopers and 6 Sentinels

Tau power gamer? And you like the feel of Cadian Grunt? And you have access to ALL THOSE MODELS?!? Hahaha! Start with this!

HQ:
Company command squad, master of ordnance.
Company command squad, master of ordnance.
Ministorum priest or commissar
Ministorum priest or commissar
Troops:
Infantry platoon: PCSq, 2 infantry squads, 50 conscripts.
Infantry platoon: PCSq, 2 infantry squads, 50 conscripts.
Heavy support:
Leman Russ Eradicator squadron (2)
Leman Russ Eradicator

That's only 1130 points. Add whatever you like. If you had more models, I'd recommend a third platoon!

Tactics: The Eradicators can target any infantry squads lying in cover, and block line of sight to your company command squads except for narrow slits through which they can fire their barrages. Don't forget to use the Ignore Cover order. You may miss your target, but you'll slag something, and very little will be able to shoot back at those guys.

Attach the priests/commissars to the blobs and charge forward, staying as spread out as possible. Assault whatever you get close to. Use orders like "forward for the emperor" and "move move move" to get even further forward. Your opponent will be left hiding in the back shooting like crazy at the cheapest thing in your army, trying to kill them all before they get too close. Cover may slow you, but its worth going through for the saves it offers. Tau have no indirect fire (barrage) in their codex. Be sure to take advantage of that by keeping your priests/commissars at the very back of their squads.

Give the infantry squads meltabombs or a special weapon with AP2. The blobs will tear through anything but a vehicle, so the infantry squads should bring something to make them threats to vehicles. Should cost you less than 100 extra points...

Consider adding a Valkyrie or Vendetta with a special weapon squad or veteran squad inside, with special weapons. Jink like crazy. Your opponent can't afford to ignore them as they bring high strength doom in quickly, but shooting them means ignoring the hordes closing in on them, and spending points on models not ideally equipped to handle hordes. Should cost you just about 200 points...

Everyone else's job is to distract your opponent from shooting conscripts. What else does a good job of that? Militarum Tempestus! Get one platoon of 1-3 squads and give each squad a plasma gun or two. That should draw the attention of the battle suits pretty fast. Plasma has the range that lets you miss with the deep strike and still do damage.

Consider spending the points on Creed, just for the improved chance of getting the strategic trait that lets you infiltrate. If you can infiltrate your conscripts... or even just get 3+ saves in ruins with your conscripts... Of course once you have Creed, you might want to get him a Chimera with camo netting and hide him in cover. Can be a pretty big point sink, but what else are you spending it on? You're going to win by overrunning their position with cheapo conscripts! Make those Tau regret setting foot on Kauyon!!!

With that many infantry one of the things you can do against tau is just spam them out and hug cover as much as you can. He'll be forced to put more markerlights into denying your cover rather than buffing bs, then once you strip him of his markerlights and blasted holes in his gun-line with artillery, charge in and swamp him in close combat. You're not great but you're a damn sight better than his guys.

The point here is to bring 140 or so infantry models charging up the board, and then bring a whole bunch of painful things that do damage from range like Wyverns, which unfortunately you don't have, but maybe your friends will OK you using the Hydra as one.

Your opponent is then forced into the unenviable position of either shooting at the part of your army killing his models NOW, or shooting at the part of your army that WILL end the game on about turn 3 if he doesn't shoot them now.
