So I'm making a dark eldar army and I would like to use some talos, but the models just don't do it for me. I was browsing AOS stuff and saw the skaven stormfiends and they look pretty dark eldar-ish with all their tubed and modified limbs etc. So I was going to convert (pretty much paint them differently ) stormfiends as talos counts as.
My question is, would most gamers be okay with this? I know my group would be, but I don't want to get turned down at the gw when I visit. Second question, are they close to the same skze? I don't want to model for advantage but they look pretty similar in size, I just think the talos is taller. Third question, any ideas for the conversion? I.e. bits I could use etc. Because I think the rat heads could fly with some people because DE are messed up like that, but I'd rather some personality to them rather than aos models slapped into 40k.

Once again, we march to war, for Victory or Death!

Talos can be anything you like to be honest, so long as you're clear with your opponent as to what it has for weapons.

In the background fluff, the Haemonculi Covens make all manner of messed up creatures. So I say let your imagination run wild.

Yeah, I'd make sure to make it as close to wysiwyg as possible. It's actually very convenient because stormfiends come with the wrecking ball type hands and they could easily represent chainflails, and they also come with a manner of guns and slots for the guns. (Although I'll probably just glue on DE ones)

Thanks. I had thought about using them for Grotesques originally but the Storm Fiend is such a bulky model that it fits Talos much better. I used Crypt Horrors for my Grotesques, leaner of build but still muscular.

I don't really like the bones they use as clubs because it doesn't really fit the Dark Eldar look imo, any ideas for replacements? Perhaps some armour panels because the models look pretty bare with just loin cloths.

I agree the bone clubs definitely didn't work. Excellent thing about the Talos kit is the massive amount of parts in it so I used various spare hands, claws, tentacles etc to make new arms for them.

Ah, good to know. Don't have that kit yet (hence this thrrad) so I'll have to got through my bits or buy some! I like the look of the models too. Also convenient you get three customizable models for less than 2 monopose ones.

You're not the first one to get that idea buddy. The Stormfiends are basically walking Taloses.

Their bulks are pretty much the same. I would maybe add a rock outcropping to account for the actual Talos's "floating" and a head swap but that's about it.

In the same vein, how would you feel if they were used as Deamon Princes?

While they are about the same size I would allow it but I'm not sure if I'd like it. You'd have to remove all the tubes etc so he looks less like he came right out of a lab. I could easily see them as nurgle DPs though. Give em the spiky ball arms and wings and you've got a classic black mace nurgle DP. The other gods wouldn't fit that we'll imo... maybe Tzeentch if you gave it a bird head?

I actually wanted to use them as Iron Warriors-themed Daemon Princes, where they had replaced mutation with bionics and such.

Ah, that makes more sense. It's just the rat face and fur that puts me off of the daemon feel but you could definitely make it work as like a Baine style, roided up daemon prince with modifications and such. Perhaps a head swap/helmet to cover up the buck teeth? Unless you want to keep that look. Would the princes be marked or painted as a generic daemon colour to fit in with your IW?

In-game they would be marked, but otherwise painted up like standard IWs. I wanted to give them jetpacks made from markers :3

I've seen some pretty impressive stuff done with just household supplies, don't underestimate the lowly marker

Good luck with the DPs anyways dude, let me know if you post them up in model showcase or something, the more chaos, the better.
