My next project is a "fluffy" Crimson fist list. So Scouts as troops and Devastators to signify "new recruits"

Given Heavy Bolters limitations (S5...) are they viable/effective with the Imperial Fist chapter tactics:
Scenario 1 - with Superior Bolter drill + tank hunter.
Scenario 2 - Standard Bolter drill + tank hunter.
?

Additionally if I do field 1 unit like this - how should I set them up? Extra bodies for ablative wounds? Or just 5 with 4HBs?
Rhino? Razorback? Or no transport (I usually prefer mobility...)
Thanks

The issue is that the first AV12 vehicle you run into is invincible, on top of the fact that Heavy Bolters aren't even good at horde killing.

If you really want to make the most of Tank Hunters, just use ML's or Lascannons. In a Skyhammer, you get some utility from Multi-Melta.

You might wanna look into the Angels of Death Supplement and the Sternhammer Strike Force. It's the Imperial Fist decurion and Bolter Drill gets upgraded from rerolling 1's to rerolling all failed hits, which is a massive boon since HBs need all the help they can get.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

It should work as a decent, low cost, unit for mulching light troops in the open and light armor. How much of that do you need in your list? I find myself needed more serious anti-armor firepower, and a 4xLC dev squad is a place to get some.

I think it should do a decent job for what they are. It might not be terribly competitive, but the squad has something to do, and can accomplish it. And look cool while doing it, a major plus.

I’d not bother with the bolter bodies. It’s not like you are going to be such a threat that you are going to draw fire. That said, unlike AV dev squads, the bolters would actually contribute to the squad’s output if things get close.

And most dev squads are fine on foot. Just tuck them away in a ruins/cover with a good field of fire and dakka away.

Even on devastator squads with the imperial fist chapter tactics, heavy bolters aren't worth it. A better bet is on a tactical squad, but even then, I don't recommend it. If you want to exploit the bolter drill, your best bet are sternguard. Especially if you are running Pedro Kantor.

I would go with 5 Devs with 4 HB's in a HB razorback. Nice and fluffy. You can worry about tank busting from other units.
