Remember that sci-fi safari game where four players had to hunt down a fifth player's giant monstrosity before it killed them all? Well, it's gone free to play. Now there are significantly more than 200 people playing it, and a whole bunch of changes have been made to the mechanics which do a pretty good job of keeping the gameplay interesting. It's still a rather hard game to get into given that four players with good teamwork and skills are harder to come by than one player with good skills, but I'm having fun with it.

I just watched a jimquisision where he was talking about this. From the sounds of it, it seems like the changes are welcomed by most. Never got into this game at all but if they do the same changes on console I might look into it

It's officially a beta a the moment, so the plan is probably to get all the kinks worked out on PC first before bringing the same changes to consoles.

I remember this game being a big deal for all of about 16 milliseconds. I guess time will tell if the F2P actually breathes life into the lurching corpse any longer than the initial release did.

I paid $60 for this when it came out, which translates into about $6 per minute I spent playing it. Perhaps I will try playing it again.

Playerbase certainly is up from when it was a $60 title (~30k in game when I checked). Hope it sticks, it was a fantastic game before they put the massively op and overpriced DLC in.

I already own five characters - two for completing the tutorial, one for logging in four days in a row and two I've bought with in-game currency - but the one I'm having the most fun with at the moment is part of the free rotation: Abe. He's a Trapper with a shotgun, stasis grenades, tracking darts and the planetary scan, which means his job is to run after the monster, lobbing grenades to slow it down and tagging it with darts so everyone knows where it is.

I got this for Xbone and played it more than I should have. I loved the concept but in the end it just wasn't very fun. I would have rather they did a straight up deathmatch kinda game with a squad of hunters vs a same sized pack of monsters.
