hi all, after a two decade gap in gaming (Altho kept up with lore and a bit of painting) I'm about 4 codex since I last played, and so badly in need of some of your words of wisdom! I've read plenty but about to re-enter the gaming scene in Bedford, UK. Here is my current list - constructive criticism would be GREAT!

(Ps I know it's not maxed, but I do like some fluff...)

+++ Altansar and Allies warhost +++

++ Eldar Craftworlds: CAD ++

Farseer w/Singing Spear, The Spirit Stone
Maugan Ra
4xShuricannon Windriders + Warlock with spear
3xScat Windriders
Wraithlord 2x Flamer, Ghostglaive, Scatter Laser

++ Eldar Craftworlds: Aspect Host ++ (+1BS)

3+Exarch (4) Dark Reapers all with starshot
4+Exarch (5) Fire Dragons with Exarch firepike
7+Exarch (8) Swooping Hawks with basic Exarch

++ Dark Eldar: Allied Detachment ++

Succubus w/Agoniser, HWG, The Armour of Misery, Webway portal
5 x basic Kabalite Warriors
Venom w/2xSplinter Cannon (dedicated transport)
Raider w/Disintegrator cannon, Aethersails (fast attack)

++ Harlequins - Cast of Players ++

Death Jester
Shadowseer – ML2, Neuro Disruptor, The Mask of Secrets
5x Players + TM (6) – TM with Caress and Neuro disruptor. Players w/ 1xNeurodisruptor, 1xcaress, 2xkiss, 2=basic loadouts.
Starweaver

Tactics…
Maugan Ra, farseer, 4xReapers in starweaver - anti flier and MEQ
Harlequins in raider - advance up one flank and Ld shenanigans, dismount and charge
Succubus with fire dragons deep striking with WWP - vs heavy armour/MCs/GCs
Kabalites in venom/disembarked for deep field objective grabbing/sitting
Shuricannon bikes with warlock vs infantry
Scat bikes objective clearing/grabbing
Big scary (distraction) CC wraithlord advancing through midfield
Hawks vs light armour/hordes/late game objective grabbing

Hey Dude, Welcome to dakka, a fellow UK based Eldar player, I'm excited.

I'm assuming all this allied transport shenanigans are starting on the board? They're unable to start off in allied transports in reserve as per the new GW FAQ as far as I'm aware. Though someone may correct me.

Overall I quite like the list, you're right, its not 100% optimal, but I think it will be solid and perform well. Just some minor pointers - Personally I don't think Hawks are as good as they used to be. As per the same FAQ, only one can use a haywire grenade in melee. I know that is how I used to use them effectively. So that ruling has effectively neutered them for me. Warp spiders are much stronger IMO.

Also, the big scary distraction wraith lord is neither big, nor scary, nor much of a distraction. For around the same points you can take a crimson hunter exarch for example, much more effective. Otherwise, if you're getting back in to it one of the best things to do is to play test and find out what fits your style in 7th.

You sought to cower behind your walls, weakling? Instead, by the will of Khorne, you shall die behind them

Thanks for the reply, I hadn't considered the FAQ re the Hawks, does that also affect their intercept of fliers, or the pie-plate grenade blasts? I never used them in melee back in the day, they would have got munched as far too flimsy! I guess vs tanks that's a big nerf from the FAQ

And yes, the raider wouldn't start in reserve, just to get the harlies up the field quickly with just a little extra protection. Perhaps not worth it now you can't deep strike allies from reserve. Shame. I have also considered WWP by joining the succubus to the harlies instead.

Spiders I've avoided, although I have a squad painted up, it's just to stop the 'theyre OP' squealing! Likewise resisting putting a wraithlord in there. Plus I don't like the model (likewise the Crimson hunter tbh), Altho the hemlock is interesting just for leadership-based shenanigans.

I've always found a scary looking big model (and the WL certainly looks that way) draws more fire than it should by its true worth. Seeing that thing bounding forward should scare a few idiots into targeting it rather than some of the more damaging but less obvious unitS. Maybe people are wise to that now but player psychology shouldn't be discounted!

Definitely need to playtest it, can't wait. Particularly looking forward to reapers, farseer and Maugan Ra cruising in their starweaver, sounds like lots of fun

Thanks for the comments dude! Been an Eldar enthusiast since Rogue trader days - still have the hard bound book and a load of old hammer figures. Hopefully some will see combat again!!
