Sneak peak at Wave 25 (due at the end of July): IKS Negh'Var

This is a re-release of the Negh'Var from Wave Zero (over two years ago!). In my casual glance at the release, it seems that all the cards are exactly the same. The only difference this time around is the paint job. The paint job on the new ship looks great!

The refreshing thing about this re-release is the review at Startrek.com. A lot more cards and rules have been introduced since Wave 0, and the review talks a bit about some of the new combo's and play styles you can use. Enjoy!

It's a little odd that with these re-releases they aren't taking the opportunity to update the cards (and in case of the Tinyprise, to rescale the model) - like say switching torpedoes to time tracking vs. disable. Are they at least incorporating any errata into the rereleases so far?

Nope. The only thing the re-releases have going for them so far is an improved paint job. The Scimitar is due for re-release soon, and that already had a good paint job, so...

I'm not really understanding the reasons why they picked these ships for re-release and then didn't do anything to change the cards, scale of the ships, or basically update the game.

"But Tamwulf! Players would have two different versions of the same card!"

That's happening right now- you have preWORF cards, and post WORF cards. The card didn't change, but the WORF changed the text, and as noted above, a "good" player will bring the FAQ and errata with them. As a side note, this is the way they do it in X-Wing and it doesn't seem to have caused any problems at all. So why not print the re-release cards with the new text?

The ineptitude, or maybe callous disregard for their own game that Wizkids has displayed over the last couple years is mind boggling. And I hate to say it, but it started with the release of the Borg and has continued on like a train heading for a derailment. These days, I feel like I've got a first class ticket on the first passenger car and there are no more stops to get off before the train derails.

Didn't even change the card art... But the paint job is nice.

What I fail to understand is the reason for bumping the release schedule. the new ships have now been displaced in the release order, and they slowed to half speed with release timetables. It makes little sense, since these ships aren't actually different.

I do love the paint job. I'm not sure I will pick one up since I have two already, but it is nice that newer players have access to the ship. Martok 8 is a staple for Klingons.

Is this the only ship for Wave 25? I don't even see the Wave listed on Wizkids website.

I'm hoping for a Ent-B and Ent-C, but all these re-releases make me wonder if they're starting to wind the game down.

We have 3 ships in this wave.

Reprinted Neg'Var as listed above.

And the USS Venture, spoiled here

The official Venture preview will probably be next week. I didn'tsee any changes to the Scimitar so that looks like just a repain. Looks a little more matalic than the original. The Venture has some interesting things but nothing is a must have, though it may be worth getting 2 or 3 just so you can say you have a "Galaxy Wing" like in DS9 Sacrifice of Angeles.

I'm kinda glad that they have slowed down the releases, three a month was hard to keep up with. At this point I think there's 16 retail releases I don't own.

Also the reprints are good for allowing new players to get hold of the older ships. I know a couple that want defiants / valdores that are hard to find this side of the pond. Heck even some of the latest wave seem to have sold out (drovana) and shops don't seem to get restocks of ships after their initial release.

The venture looks nice, but not a must have. I'll pick one up to add to the two galaxys I've got to fly a galaxy squadron.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

I realize that this isn't related to the Negh'Var, but does anyone else think maybe the Thalaron Weapon should be non-Unique, limited to the Scimitar only, like Transphasic Torpedoes? It seems to me to be the best answer to the Federation's crew heavy combos, and its a 10 point upgrade...

Yeah, I never understood that one, transphasics are NOT unique. Thematically there is no explanation for it, there was never anything said in Nemesis about it being a one shot deal.
