Hey! I posted this in general chat but thought this section might be better.
I'm relatively new to 40K and I'm starting Space Wolves.
Now after some research and window shopping I've come up with these lists that I feel might be a good starter around my price range.
I'd like your input on if i should remove or add anything. I'll also state the prices of the lists so you have a better idea of what I could build.

As for style of play I like well balanced but mainly assault/small elite.

So list one and the one I'm currently leaning towards:

-Land Raider Crusader - Heavy / Transport
-Terminators
-Arjac Rockfist
(So with the above I also get the Arjac's Shieldbrother formation.. But the Terminators and Crusader also can go towards different formations in the future)
- Space Wolves Pack (probably Grey Hunters)
- Start Collecting box ( which gives me a wolf lord HQ, 10 more marines and 3 TWC)
If i go to the online discount sites that would cost me roughly £130/£140

The other list I have is pretty much the same as the Warriors of the Fang Box but just get extra TWC:

-Drop Pod - Transport
-Space Wolves Pack
-Long Fangs - Heavy
-Skyclaws - Fast
-Start Collecting box ( which again gives me a wolf lord HQ, 10 more marines and 3 TWC)
This will cost me roughly £118.. or if I drop this and just get the Warriors Boxset it will be £102

So anyway you probably have a good idea what i'm working with here.. I'd really appreciate any feedback.

Also feel free to give me any list you think i should start with

Thank you,

Jamstrap

Ancient Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought

Personally I'd grab two of the Start Collecting Space Wolves boxes, turn both 'Wolf Lords' into Rune Priests and put aside one of the cool eagle headed backpacks to make a Thunderwolf mounted Wolf Lord.

Company of the Great Wolf
1x Wolf Guard Battle Leader 50
5x Wolf Guard 90
5x Wolf Guard 90

Deathpack
1x Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf 155
5x Thunderwolf Cavalry 200
9x Grey Hunters 70

Wyrdstorm Brotherhood
2x Rune Priests 120

Gives you 770 point base to build on, oodles of cool rules and a good amount of freedom to upgrade.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Hello, Hope I can help:

Wolves do assault/ small elite very well. Here is how I would do it/what I would say of your list (I will answer as if you want a competitive list):

1) Remove the Land Raider and replace with a Stormwolf. Why?:
They are around same price but:
a)better armed,
b)harder to hit/damage (flyer/ceramite plating),
c)greater transport capacity,
d)move further per turn

2) Remove Arjac Rockfist and replace with Rune/Iron Priest. Why?:
a)he is shameless Thor rip-off
b)he is overpriced for what he can accomplish
c)think of what else you could get for those points and if it would cause your opponent more problems (There are loads of options that satisfy these conditions).
d)Rune Priests buff whole unit (think Prescience spell from Divination) reasonably reliably for less points than Thor. Whole unit being buffed is way more effective than Arjac and his rubbish 6" range on hammer.
e)Iron Priests on thunderwolf mount with tempest hammers erase enemy characters if put in the right unit and used correctly.

3)Forget the Shield Brother formation. As with every thing else in ANY Imperium Codex it Pales in comparison to Wulfen in terms of pts-to-damage. Seriously they are boss.

4)You want Elite? Skip straight to Champions of Fenris Detachment (From Supplement of same name- NOT Formation form Warzone Fenris) which allows you to ignore useless units like Grey hunters and bloodclaws and only stipulates the inclusion of Elites. Trade them for:
a)Wulfen
b)Wolf Guard with Combi-Plasma in drop pod

5)Thunderwolves are good. Just don't load them up pts wise as many still seem to do. Try and buff them by proximity to Wulfen using Curse of Wulfen rule.
