Just wanted some general advice on the army. Ive always loved the fluff and the style and look of Wolves but never had chance to collect them personally as was in a group with a couple wolves players. Now I have the chance to play them and really put some love into the models I just wanted to know they general style of play in 7th and if has changed a whole lot. Im new to 7th having only played a couple games at the release. So I am not up to speed on what units are just meh and what are pretty good, I do know that Wolf cavalry is really strong. I have only just seen the vulken models also which look pretty good.

TL;DR Just want a rundown on which units are bad/good. Im not a competitive player just a want to know basis.

Cheers!

Good: TWC, Wulfen, Lords, Iron priest (both on TWC)

Ok: Grey hunters, Rune Priest (especially in the formation of 3-5), Stormwolf, Fenrisian Wolves, Land Speeders, Long Fangs, all tanks, Axe&shield dread in pod, lone wolves, Ulric

Bad: PA Wolf Guard, Blood Claws, Sky Claws, Stormfang, scouts, Wolf Priest, most special characters

Depends: TDAWG(either with combi-weapons in a drop pod or melee in a crusader/redeemer in the Iron Wolf formation for potential T1 charge), Swift Claws (min squads to grab objectives in maelstrom)

I recommend 2 Getting Started boxes as you definately need more than 3 TWC and 10 PA bodies. The captain has lots of interesting bits to kitbash characters and IIRC several combi-weapons

Ragnar hit it right on the head.

I tthink Rune Priests might fit in the higher tier, shuch a bang for your buck (and pts). Especially so with these new Psyker powers.

We've got lists circulating in the Army Lists sections, here. Take a gander at what we're bringing, each our own flavor.

I'd say don't go spamming squads cuz they be broked'd. Go for balance, variety, and quantity with key models shining through them all.

And definitely be sure to get some wolf presence on the table, they're good and good looking, too.

Super-Meta has "the Friends" w/ bunches of models in one unit (like say, Iron Priests mounted w/ Cyberwolves all joining TWC, or joining other factions like White Scars Biker Command Squads for madd perks).
Swarm turn 1 an inch away, turn 2 wrap all that stands in fur within CC.

Our shooting is a pod/rhino efficiency model, nothing uber broken. Wyrdstorm Brotherhood packs Dakka with Helm of Durfast combined with formation power and living lightning (ML2).

I strongly disagree that Bloodclaws/Skyclaws are bad. They destroy non heavy melee units on the charge and are dirt cheap for MEQ assault marines. Hidden powerfist/axe, WGPL with claws is nasty in a challenge, more cost effective at soaking up shots with their face, and gain Curse of the Wulfen from 12" away unlike the rest of the army which is 6". Personally I think Skyclaws are everything assault marines wish they where by being cheaper and having more attacks on the charge. Blood/Skyclaws handle the chaff units while your big hitters like TWC, Wulfen, or Terminators can take on the bigger or harder hitting targets.

Usually when I see Space Wolves being played, the player usually suffers from making TWC super expensive or dreads too. Don't get me wrong TWC can ball, but I wouldn't put all eggs in that basket.

WAAAGH!!!

Depends on how much you have to spend on starting.
If you want to get in cheap and start doing what space Wolves do best I'd recommend one starter pack and a pack of three bikes, that'll give you a force of Thunderwolves, one or two forces of infantry, a character and a squad of bikes. You now have a force that is Mobile, agile and hostile.

Example
No detachment just two formations
Deathpack

1x Wolf Lord on Bike
3x Thunderwolf Cavalry
10x Grey Hunters

Wyrdstorm Botherhood
2x Rune Priest on Bikes
1x Rune Priest on foot

You have solid fire power and will either make melee on the first turn or force your opponent to set up on their board edge. If you want to spend a bit extra grab a drop pod for the Grey Hunters.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Yeah, just take a single TWC squad for around 250 and a Wulfen squad for aprox. the same. Max one IC in each. My favorite TWC squad costs only 200.

Gotta agree with this. Blood/Sky/Swift Claws are brilliant.
Blood/Sky Claws are some of the best infantry sweepers the Space Wolves have access to. Drop Pod the Blood Claws on the first turn & start Flaming. Drop the Sky Claws in as soon as possible and continue flaming.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

In the right circumstances BC's shine. They aren't Tac Marines tho, they're specialists. Defined purposes.

Essentially I see them as fodder and tarpit, but not as grots - they can truly hold their own, if not facing serious threats.
