Got a chance to talk to the creator and can finally answer some questions!
Presentation:
So, as most of you have noticed, the initial presentation of the
KS was… unsatisfactory (read: ATROCIOUS

). The creator, Cory, is well aware of that and taking all the steps he can to amend this. This is their first time using the creator side of Kickstarter and when setting up the page, got a bit over-zealous with clicking and accidentally launched the Kickstarter before they had the page nicely set up. He was away at a convention this past weekend and didn’t have time to fix up the page before then. The page will start looking much better in the next couple of days.
So far they have filmed an actual intro video (
now on he KS page!), are working on a video that will show setup and takedown while playing a game, and are fixing up the text to better explain the pledge levels. As some of you may have noticed, there is a link to his website on the
KS, but the site is not yet set up (

). I asked him about this, and he’s waiting on the
40k trays to be finalized so he can launch the full site and have it look all professional and fancy (my words, not his

).
Also, he’s got a Facebook page (
https://www.facebook.com/www.modulararmytransport.ca/) which is where the majority of updates and information will be available. Apologies for those of you that don’t use Facebook…
Purpose/Goals:
I kind of mentioned this before, but the goal of this
KS is for Cory to raise funds to get equipment that will streamline/automate the building process a bit more, which will allow him to sell the cases at a more competitive price point, and allow him to offer extra products and customization at an earlier date. He will be offering the cases through his website and Facebook page regardless of whether or not the
KS funds.
Basing:
In the past couple months that the cases have been in use, Cory has noticed no major chipping or damage to the paint on his bases. He figures that there will be higher rate of damage to the bases, however the tradeoff is there will be much less (or zero) damage to the models themselves. Foam trays do a wonderful job of protecting models as well, but I’ve personally found that models can still chip or get caught in the foam and break.
The
40k trays are still being finalized, but are being designed to grip the edges of the base, not the top of them. That will mean that the flocking and other materials on the top of the base will remain unharmed. Again, higher rate of scratching on the edges of the base, but the minis and basing material will remain perfectly preserved.
Materials:
Cory is looking into the other materials and getting some quotes on pricing and availability. He’s open to selling cases that use the more durable plastics, but will have to adjust the price of those ones accordingly. Ideally, he’s looking to offer multiple materials and layouts, so you can get what suits your desires and budget.
Easy-bake!
As per Moopy’s request, I asked about the easy-bake qualities of the cases. So the only “test” he’s done so far is leaving the case and models in the back of his hatchback, with a blanket over it, in 27ºC (80.6ºF) weather with the windows slightly open. The minis were fine in that. Other than that, the cases have no fancy heat dissipating tech, so if you’re going to leave your case and minis in the car most of the day in really hot weather, well, they’re probably not going to like it. At the same time, leaving any minis case in the direct sunlight is probably not a great idea.
Some random things that are being planned down the road (and will come quicker if the
KS is successful):
Backpacks for the cases – offers better travel protection and ease of carry.
Custom case and tray colours, and custom engraving.
Different plastics for custom durability.
...
(Pretty sure there was more, but my memory is failing right now

)
I think that covered most of the questions so far. Again, if there is anything else, feel free to ask!
