I thought that I would start a thread for people to list off units that are listed in their respective codices that GW doesn't even sell. For example, the ork warboss on a bike and the ork painboy who also doesn't have a model with a bike but has the option to upgrade them.

Cheers, C66

"The space marine officer was waving and yelling to his men on the wall unaware he was leading the Squiggoth on. Stompy (the squiggoth) headbutted its way through the wall and gave chase to the terrified commander as he ran up seven tiers of the fortress, trying to close gates behind him and ordering men to cover his fight. In the end, stompy cornered and pulverised the officer in the heart of the citadel as thousands of orks poured through the breaches he had left behind."

For orks there is possibly the only remaining unit without a past or present kit: biker nobz. Technically you do get one in each biker box I suppose.

Stormboy nob I think doesn't have any model? Nor does ard boy armor unless I'm missing what's supposed to represent that.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Forgeworld have some biker nobz, also a biker warboss. Also it is not hard to kitbash nob bikerz using nob torsos and arms from the nob box.

Kromlech have some ard boy bitz that fit with GW bitz just fine.

Stormboyz have a nob model...kind of, there isn't much difference but it does have a power klaw.

As for Ard Boyz? well those armor plates that come with nobz and boyz models are supposed to represent "Ard" armor. Granted they don't do it justice and everyone uses them for decoration.

I can think of many characters on bikes in the space marine codex (Tech marine, captain, chaplain, etc.) That don't have on production models.

The plastic boxes have the bits to make the special and heavy weapons. There's also dedicated metal models for the special weapon guys.

Unless you mean them selling purely special weapon squads, which they don't do, but the models exist.

They sell a deffkopta its just metal, I don't understand why they can't sell plastic ones like AoBR. Also seriously update the warbuggies and wartrakk!

Dark Angels have power mauls. FW makes power mauls. Heck, you could use a thunder hammer as a maul.

Unless you mean them selling purely special weapon squads, which they don't do, but the models exist.

You get the choice of:
10 bods with two of the least used special weapons (Flamer and Grenade Launcher), 5 bods with both of those plus a Melta Gun and a Plasma Gun (but only one of each) or 6 bods with three of each Heavy Weapons. So not much there unless you want to buy several kits for one unit.

There is, but you have to go back a ways for it. I don't think simple weapon-swaps are what the OP is after though, as even a basic modeler should be able to manage it?
Bike characters seem to be a primary culprit, likewise the Chaos steeds mentioned earlier.

Built my GK conversion beamer out of some radar dish before there was even concept art for the damn thing. That's a weird one, seeing how long it was in the rules without a single peice of art or model to suggest how it looked.

Before WHFB died, Skaven had a litter bearers upgrade for the warlord. There was no model, and nothing to suggest how big it would be. Most people assumed 2x2 rank and file bases, but it was really just guesswork.

Sisters of Battle have the opposite problem. So many old upgrades that are gone from the army, but since they haven't gotten any new models the old upgrades are still being sold, just rebranded.

Outer Space, Apparently

How about the fact that Space Marine Devastators and Tactical Marines aren't even sold with representations for all their equipment - only one Tactical Marine can carry the bolt pistol that every squad member should have, same thing with the knives (there are a few more of those though).

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

I did similar but went for the wackiest looking weapon I could find, which is the triple barreled Grey Knight Psilencer.

Unless I am really dumb I can't find a way to make space marine bikers with special weapons like grav unless you convert them yourself.
