The old thread is... pretty much dead due to the lack of interim updates between the last major one and the upcoming 1.0 update, so making a new one to talk about the final update to take the game out of Early Access

Once the final 1.0 update hits on the July 22nd, Darkinnit will eventually update the server once he gets time to do so, and I'll certainly be enjoying my time on it. Hope to see others on too! I think even if we can keep our old world and characters for the update, IMO we should use new ones and create a new homeworld from scratch to celebrate the full release of the game.

For those that aren't already in, Darkinnit needs to be PMed for a username and password to use to join, as this is a whitelist system.

The blog at playstarbound.com has a great many of the details of what's coming up for the update, but a short summary of high points that they have revealed....
1: Revamped quest system and finished storyline.
2: Beefed up Settlement system and NPC Crews for your ship.
3: Better Pet system including the ability to basically play pokebound.
4: More advanced farming system, including livestock.
5: A lot more biomes and minibiomes and dungeons both surface and underground.
6: More bosses, with more variety of them.
7: Additions and changes to the interface.
8: Archeology system, can find more and more things underground..
9: New NPC species.
10: Bug squashing and optimization efforts.

And more stuff discussed on the blog, plus a large quantity of things they haven't talked about.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I remember getting this like right when it first went on sale, seemed like it had potential but wasn't quite there.

Has it changed greatly during the initial test phases in terms of content? If so I might want to give it another go.

It has changed massively already from the initial launch, and the 1.0 update will be even more massive changes.

For example, the way you tech up is different. The bosses are different-- some old bosses are no longer there, unless they get added back fore the 1.0 update. There's the ability to build settlements and there's a centralized "hub" settlement that you can trade from, et cetera. I'd wait for the update though, as the game in its current form, while having a lot of content, isn't finished in the devs eyes, while the 1.0 update will be a full release version.

It's out and ready to download. Wish I wasn't so busy or I'd be playing right now

I've checked it for thirty minutes or so before work. It has a helpful tutorial now, plus an actual introduction to the plot, as thin as it is.

Yeah. The game is substantially different, IMO, without deviating from being Starbound.

I have been playing quite a bit the last two days with some friends. We are currently constructing a Sea Lab as a main base on the server we use, going to populate it with some NPCs as soon as we finish. We have upgraded to Durasteel gear, running around on Radiated worlds. Fighting off cultists left and right.

I never got in to the game a lot before 1.0, but now I am enjoying it quite a bit.

Spent most of this morning trying to find the flower people stuff I need to scan in order to progress after making a start last evening in coop. Apparently my brother, who was ahead of us, smashed one of the objects you need to scan, so when I revisited the location today solo, all of the sudden there was an unscanned object there. Thanks a lot, jerk, I wasted quite some time finding it..

Also, why did nobody tell me you could have volkite pistols in this game?

Well, our Sea Lab has crashed on the server we play on. We can no longer go to that planet. We did something bad and we have no clue what it is.

That's.... that's weird. I can't fathom what would cause that....

Not sure, it happened when we were building our garden and trying to find a way to regulate water flow from the outside to automatically water the plants.. I think it has something to do with that.

Yep pretty great how it now automatically closes itself on launch for me even after verifying content, reinstalls etc.
10/10 update

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Apparently a lot of people are having this issue as well as it seems they've discontinued support for a bunch of different os with this update; simply feth this scummy company and their game.
