Hey guys I'm looking into tau and is starting at 750 points never really played then or played against them so knowledge is a bit on the low side as all I have had for experience is online battle reps so...

HQ
Commander iridium armor +2 marker light drones fusion blaster plasma rifle with drone controller and fnp

Elites
3 man stealth suits all burst cannons
3 crisis suits with fusion blaster and missile pods

Troops
2 x 10 man fire warriors squads with pulse rifles

Heavy
2 broad sides with rail rifles and nd smart missile systems

And I velive that's 747 points

What do you think of the list I don't mind criticism

Cheers in advance

It looks like a good start. In general, you don't want to mix weapons on Crisis suits. You want them to do one thing really well, so 2x Fusion, 2x Missile, 2x Plasma, etc. You should give your Commander a Target Lock, so that he can shoot at a different target than the Marker Drones. Heavy Rail Rifles are terrible. If they were Heavy 2, it would be a close call between taking them or Missiles, but, as is, Missiles win every time.

Agreed, keep weapons similar on suits (I.E. 2x plas/fusion/MP), HYMP >HRR on the broadside, and a target lock on the commander.

To pay for these changes, you only really need to drop one or two fire warriors (and, while you're at it, I prefer multiple small units of fire warriors at smaller points just so losing a squad or two to a round of shooting doesn't remove all my firewarriors if they break and run.)

Also, in higher point values, you're definitely missing marker lights. They're not the complete make or break item of tau, but they do give some pretty nice buffs obviously, and you might even want a few more in this list. If you expand your army further, I'd suggest either some pathfinders/tetras (iirc), or the Drone Net formation for ~1500+ points (4 drone squads who give all drones including others not in the formation +1 BS, and the ones in the formations gain various rules like jink, and split fire). After that, depending on how competitive your local meta is, perhaps a riptide or two.

I am going to counter the other 2 opinions on Crisis Suits at least in sub 1000 games. Fusion+MP is not a bad build for anti-armor support in small games as it keeps them earning points quickly.

Splitting to four 5 man teams instead of two 10 man will be more effective. You can still get the same shot volume on to two targets, but have the option to target 4.

If you just really want to run Railsides, a Velocity tracker makes them a threat for flyers. A single Ap1 pen can really hurt a flyer.
