Chaos Space Marines
This army list is for a tournament. The following guidlines are; no gargantuans, one combined arms detachment only, 1000 points total and three color minimum. Also WYSIWYG.
(you can skip this next part because)
There is back story for my army:
PART ONE:
The planet Neapolus of the Artourius system was once a world of chaos. The armys of the imperium attacked and cleansed Neapolus, ridding it from all darkness. It became a world of order.
Once there was a boy that lived on Neapolus, named Nikodemos. One day the young man Nik went wandering through the desert. He found something strange. He sifted through the sand until he uncovered what he immediately recognised. It was a bolter. He tried his hardest to
grasp it from the desert sand, but he could not do so on his own. Nikodemos decided to flit swiftly back to the village where he could find his friend.
Le'ard was stronger and taller than the children his age. Where Nikodemos was witty, swift and intelegant Le'ard was head strong, beligerant and slow. When Nik got abused at school it was Le'ard who saved his ass.
When Nik reached the edge of town he saw his friend Le'ard plowing the fields. Nik embraced him and immediatley told him of what he found in the desert. Nik made Le'ard keep it secret. Le'ard agreed. When Le followed his friend to the edge of the desert they recovered the bolter. Together. The two lads wandered back to the village and waited until nightfall to fully return to Niks house (where they could keep it secret).
Every night Nikodemos would go into his shed and retreve some of his fathers tools. He began to disasemble the thing. Every night he discover new mysteries about it. Every night he would speak to his friend about his descovories.
The night he was finished with the machine he felt accomplished. At long last he was done.
Inspired he soon began to reassemble the gun and in no time he was done.
This was the begining of a new passion, a lust that must be fufilled, a secret that must be kept at all costs, this was the begining of a warpsmith.
(read this part)
HQ:
Warpsmith- 110
Troops:
5 Chaos Space Marines- melta gun, champion with combi-melta- 95
+ Rhino- combi melta- 45
10 Chaos Cultists- close combat weapons and auto pistols- 50
Elites:
3 Chaos Terminators- two with combi-melta and powerfist, champion with combi-melta- 126
Hell Brute- multimelta, powerfist- 100
Hell Brute- multimelta, powerfist- 100
Heavy Support:
Defiler- 195
Forgefiend- 175
Total:
996
Basically its just a warpsmith and a ton of hull points with some serious melta f-ups. I would like to know what you think. If you have ever been in a 1000 point tourney, what should I expect. I'd like to mention that I like the army the way it is, but there is also still room to refine it.
For all of you Slaaneshy worshipers out there; thanks!
This is what my army will look like before reserves and disembarking.

The list looks okay given the tournament restrictions. I was going to recommend the Mayhem Pack formation but I guess you can't run anything outside of a CAD.
How are you planning to deal with flyers and FMCs? Do you have access to a Heldrake? The Defiler is cool looking but unfortunately not a very good unit, a Heldrake with a Baleflamer would be a better use of those points.

I would agree with Gorgo, I want to use defilers but they just aren't worth it. Heldrakes are amazing at any points level, but especially valuable in low point matches. Similarly, forgefiends are also overpriced. If they had BS4, they'd be great, but at BS3 they just don't do enough to justify 175 points. Have you thought about Havocs with autocannons?

Heldrake is a maybe. I think one of the stores out here carries one, ill let you know...honestly never really considered it. Seems like everyones had poor experience with defilers. I do kinda want to try it out though, it hasn't seen much action in a while. Whichever way I go I think heldrake is at the top of my list right now. Thanks this might really help!

Heldrakes are amazing. I, personally, love defilers, and often bring them along for friendly games where I don't care much about losing, but in a tournament atmosphere they are just wayyy too much of a drag.

Defilers are one of my favorite units. They are very fun to use but not very good at anything.
Hopefully CSM will get an update eventually that makes them playable outside of friendly games!

Does anyone have any ideas what to do with the extra 29 points?

You could add weapons to the powerfists on your Helbrutes

Actually what might be better than upgrading the hell brutes: combi-bolter on the warpsmith, one extra cultist and one extra marine! Does everyone agree that the bale flamer is better than the hades auto cannon?
Automatically Appended Next Post: That's combi-melta for the warp smith not combi-bolter.

The Warpsmith will travel with the cultists, to spread out my melta damage. The Defiler will be my anti infantry along with the Helbrutes. For anti-aircraft I've got the Heldrake and I have meltaguns spread throughout my force just incase anything big shows up. I need help planning on deployment though what would the best configuration be? Rhino and Defiler on the flanks with my Warpsmith and Helbrutes in the center? Or should I pack my force into one tiny group? Either way it looks like a fun list to play I hope you enjoy thanks!
So here's my most current list...
HQ:
Warpsmith Nikodemos- combi-melta- 120
Troops:
5 Chaos Space Marines- melta gun, champion with combi-melta- 95
+Rhino- 35
10 Chaos Cultists- 50
Elites:
3 Chaos Terminators- 2 combi-meltas, 1 chainfist, champion with combi-melta- 124
Helbrute- reaper autocannon- 105
Helbrute- reaper autocannon- 105
Fast Attack:
Heldrake- baleflamer- 170
Heavy Support:
Defiler- 195
Total:
999
I took the advice on the Heldrake, and your help is much appreciated. I'm excited to see how it works. Hopefully we all agree that the better weapon is the baleflamer. However I went with the Defiler instead of the Forgefiend because with the the extra 25 points you get a much better model; an extra hullpoint, you ignore the unwieldy special (so has a total of 4 strength 10 AP 2 attacks) not to mention the battle cannon. In my, albeit little, experience with the Forgefeind and Defiler the Defiler usually reeks a little more havoc. Anyway I think this will be the list I stick to thanks for your help!
any more comments are appreciated!
