Hey mates. Recently got my hands on a bunch of Cadian Kasrkin Models and I plan to use them in both the DKOK Grenadier list or the Militarum Tempestus book. While the DKOK list is pretty cut and dry, for the Militarum Tempestus I have two options to pick from and that is where you guys come in. I could either run the Ground Assault Formation, which basically is a Commissar and 4x Scion Squads (1x Command, 3x Troop) in Taurox Primes, or the Airborne Assault Formation, which is exactly the same as the Ground Assault Force with the exception of replacing the Taurox Primes with Valkyrie Gunships. Has anyone had any experience going against or playing with either of these formations? And if so, would appreciate any advice, tactics, or opinions on which formation is my best bet and why. All feedback welcome.

RAW you can hop back into your transports to get twin linked again when you get out and it will be easier to do this in the tarouxes (even though they are made of paper)

The airborne assault is still good though

Krieg! What a hole...

Airborne might not be better, but it'll play differently than the Krieg list, considering it'll be extremely similar to the ground assault list, except with chimeras and no special rules.

Edit: Consider the get started formation: 1x commissar, 1x Scion Command squad, 1x Scion squad, 1x Taurox prime, you get to respawn the Scions, as long as the commissar is alive

Have considered that formation and it is an option. However, I currently plan to field enough models to run either the Ground or Airborne Assault Formations as I plan to ally them with Inquisition, Astra Militarum, and depending if the rumors are true, a Deathwatch Space Marine Force or a standard Space Marine Army. That's the current game plan atm anyways so we shall see how it goes.

Ground Assault imo is better because its BS4, you can start on table or reserve at your discretion, and it is cheaper overall.

Downside is you're squishier.

I've started running Ground Assault and I have to say twin-linked on Melta and Plasma is great.

The green pastures of dakka-dakka

I am a massive fan of the Airborne assault formation, I just feel that the Valkyries come in far more useful than a taurox ever has

I don't think the twin-linkage from the Ground Assault is worth loosing objective secured and having to take a commissar. Also, you loose the ability to deep strike.

To me, with the same models, a CAD is better. You can take minimal scion squads with a Taurox each. The Taurox move up and can camp objectives, while the scions deep strike with plasmas or meltas behind key targets, or deep strike to take objectives.

Did they FAQ the Valkyrie? I remember it being BS3 so I was like why the hell would I want it for the lascannon if its going to miss half the time, may as well grab a melta.

Edit: Hey guess what I was right it's BS3.

Was more referring to the Infantry and the Taurox Primes, which I basically crewed by Militarum Tempestus Scions mate .
