I have my custom chapter's background and color scheme figured out, but finding an icon that is both easy enough for me to draw and looks good on my space marines has me so frustrated I'm just about ready to throw the entire army in the trash a d give up. The color scheme is half green, half red with bone colored shoulder pads and face part of the helmet (whatever it's called) Their background is going to be inspired by medieval Anglo (Ireland, Wales, England, Scotland) and a little bit of Norse. More than likely their primarch is going to be Corvus or Dorn. The only problem is, I have incredible creative block when it comes to insignias and names. I can't think of anything and all the stuff I Google is either too difficult to replicate more than once or too simple/ doesn't look like a chapter insignia. I'm about to give up amd desperately need some pointers from people who have had this problem or know of a source of inspiration I probably haven't come across. I suck at freehanding so I've abandoned several chapters because I don't want beautiful armor but a crappy, lopsided icon on their shoulder. Any help is appreciated.

I can help you out a bit with this, I think. I recommend going with Fallout Hobbies printable waterslide decals, you just have to send them a file of what you want, though it will cost you a little bit. That's preferable to painting each chapter icon on each shoulder pauldron, though!

Here's their info: http://www.fallouthobbies.com/custom

I can help out with the design and prep for your chapter logo.

I would suggest doing a rampant lion or dragon or some other animal that you like, since that would get the medieval theme you want going. Heraldry like that always plants the mind firmly in the medieval zone.
Find something you like in your google search and repost it here, and I'll help you figure out something, and maybe some other Dakka chaps will as well.

Well, to narrow it down a bit it'll help to know if it's a successor chapter of one of the bigger Space Marines Chapters or a complete new one.
And also, is there something special about your chapter that repeats itself in its background? Like extreme Bravery or Bloodshed?

I personally wouldn't go with Anglo-Saxon Heraldry, it's just to much work & unless you plan to put that herald on any tank & Vehicle
i'd go with something simple, maybe a Greek letter for it's company insignia.

I draw quite a lot an created my own insignia & Herald for my Chaos Warband, and to figure out what i wanted i simple implemented the models
i personally like the most, the Chaos God i play the most & on what Traitor Chapter this Warband is based on.
If Antique to Medieval Age is what you draw your Inspiration from, i'd go with something like GrimTeef already suggested; Dragons, Lions - maybe
some crossed Weapons like a Crozius and an Power Maul or something like this. If you have a base idea i'd like to help you out - but some base
idea needs to come from you

When I think Wales I think of the dragon, a triskele pattern, and of course...the leek, lol. None of which are particularly fantastic symbols (besides the triskele).

A red dragon's head? Probably already available via some other unit.
