This is probably going to be my last game of 40k ever (leaving the hobby due to all sorts of reasons) so I wanted to bring a semi-comp list so I could have a bit of fun while not trying to curb stomp the opponent. This is what I have planned, subject to change depending on what they want to play against (Flyrants are good after all and might be a bit much at 1000 and I've never played against them, despite having some banter with them).

i guess the tervigon AND flyrant might be a little too much at 1000 points, but you said semi-competitive.
i am not a tyranids player, but that looks quite like what i would take, maybe without the exocrine.
i like their "artillery". or those cover ignoring warriors.
or bring the mean old swarmlord with some weaker stuff.
