How viable would 2 Khorne demon start collecting boxes and a Bloodthirster of Insensant Rage be for a strictly demon 40k army?

Only play in a casual setting with the buddies at home so I only need something that has enough comptetiveness to be fun.

I love the new Thirster models so I want one in the army no matter what and I hate the CSM models with a passion so using them is 100 percent out of the question.

Plus I already have a Blood Angels army so yea.

I personally would replace the bloodcrushers with flesh hounds, they're cheaper and still WS 5 with a 5++ daemon save. If you want some crushers you can always get them with blood tithe points too.
Also the Soul Grinders w/ phlegm bombardment are pretty good, large blast, a anti-air weapon, power claw, daemon save w/ AV 13 and it can ignore shaken/stunned on a 2+.
On heralds I wouldn't know I've never used them and my BT is an Unfettered Fury so I don't know about how deadly it is w/ the D weapon.
Hope that helps some

Yea the blood crushers were mostly just become they come in the box. I figured a throne could be run as an HQ and the other could be a skull cannon.

Skull cannons are good, Thrones are meh because a chariot is easy to pop and denies the Herald the ability to hide in squads of something else.

The bloodcrushers are what really kills the set. Aside from being Khorne's only fast icon bearers (this is the one thing Hounds can't do) they're extremely easily gibbed by any S8 weapon, which is pretty plentiful.

I would instead look to buying some Warhounds of Chaos and using them as Fleshhounds, then running the Daemonic Incursion with them and a Herald and then buy what you need as it comes. Warhounds are so cheap that they pretty much offset the discount you'd get from the start collecting boxes anyways. 4 boxes of Warhounds and 3 boxes of Skullcannons comes a few dollars above the cost of the Start Collecting! kits but gives you a much more ferocious army for it (you can get up to three free heralds from the skullcannons).

If you do some cheeky modelling and some ingenuity you can get 2 heralds, and 2-4 extra bloodletters. Not much, I know, but it helps. I would do 2 units of 12 bloodletters, herald on juggernaut, 5 jugs, 1 skull throne and 1 skull cannon. Maybe a base herald for extra BT and challenges. Just get creative, I'm sure any list you make can be decent.

Also OP, please do not become another KDK player who just spams dogs. It makes orphans cry

I converted my skullcannon to have one bloodletter wielding two swords (the sword arms on that kit are in opposite hands) riding it Dr. Strangelove style. This gave me an extra body to work with from the kit alongside the extra herald (who I stuck on a juggernaut, giving me yet another body).

Lore-wise a Daemonette insulted his performance so he decided to become the avatar of compensation.

This how I'm planning of bulking out my army when I have the spare change

Two of these boxes to -

One Skull Cannon as it'll be handy for late game summon shooting maybe? (I'm not actually certain the bits I need for this are in the box? But I've got bits to kitbash if I have to)

Bloodcrushers as you never know - I might want to summon them. (I'll have 3 spare but it's cheaper than buying individually still)

Bloodletters - always yes.

Then the herald on the throne because why not though I doubt I'll use him often.

Why not just make two skull cannons? And use the heralds as heralds?

I was thinking Herald on Crusher. 5 crushers. 2 skull cannons and blood letters from the rest.

Then add in a Thirster and Chaos hounds as flesh hounds and should have a decent army out of it based on my reaearch.

Sure Crushersmight get wrecked by str 8 but they look great so in my world that warrants using them.

Not a bad shout putting a Herald on a crusher - I'll do that as I was at a loose end in regards to the other 3 Bloodcrushers.

In regards to why not make two skullcannons.

I've already sort of decided what list I want to focus on & build. With minor adjustments here and there.
As such I know I'll never start a game with 1 Skull Cannon or more deployed. So I'll only ever summon them (probably turn 5+)
And I don't imagine that I'll be able to summon more than one either.

So having a Herald on a throne at least gives me options for 'fun' lists later down the line.

Only thing I would be concerned with is generating enough tithe points to actually get some summons off. It seems that without running fodder units like cultists and such summoning might not be that easy. Might be better of going with boosting the units that you do have on the board.

I was thinking of running something like this.

HQ
Herald on Juggernaut
Thirster of Insensate Rage

Elite
3x Blood Crushers

Troops
10x Bloodletters
10x Bloodletters

Fast Attack
5x Flesh Hounds
5x Flesh Hounds

Heavy Support
Skull Cannon

Probably not the most efficient but it will look good and seems somewhat killy. Bloodthirster can handle heavies and the cannon should be able to pop a transport or two.

Random question, how do the rider-less Juggernauts compare to Flesh hounds in model size?

Because if they are not too far off, you might be able to take a few spare parts and divide the juggers to hounds and some spare bloodletters to make a third unit.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.
