Looks like a restaurant/bar in Ansbach. Leaning more towards gas-leak at this time. There were better targets happening in Ansbach this weekend, so I'm inclined to agree with that initial thought.

Aye. But given climate. The question of if it was deliberately done is always looked at in detail

But it doesn't feel like middle east style terrorism. I'm still wondering if this wasn't something else like a personal vendetta.

I think so far it's the mayor saying that.
Which would be a pretty sloppy and poorly planned attack. There is currently a huge music festival in Ansbach, there are US military bases there, big crowds and historical buildings all over the place. And someone sets off a bomb outside a small wine bar that barely causes double digits worth of victims with only one dead?

Wouldn't be surprised if it was intentional - every single time mass killings occur, the media blows up the story and starts a chain reaction as other lunatics realise they have the world's attention now

RT is reporting the 1 dead is the suspect, with 11 wounded.
Also that the suspect was turned away from a music festival right beforehand, so this actually was pretty lucky - although I am sure the 11 wounded don't think so.

I'm a liberal person, I've read the Q'uran, and I don't disagree with him. Therefore your point is invalid.
But hey, that's neither here nor there so maybe we should just drop it before a mod steps in and tells a couple people to knock off the nonsense.

Ansbach is a very weird city to target. I grew up 20 minutes away from there and actually walked past that spot with my family last year. There is really nothing much significant there that would warrant it, other than the US military installations, and it doesn't look like they were targeted. Which makes me wonder if it was someone local.

The average Terrorist tends to go for soft targets with little to no security, not hard targets with victims who can fight back like Military bases, Police stations, or large festivals with heavy anti-terror security operations in place to protect them. Why would they go for the festival if thats exactly what the Police expect? Private businesses, unlike Public transport hubs and Government facilities, lack the resources for anti-terror security. Its much easier to shoot up a soft target like a night club or a restaurant, than a hard target like an airport. Terrorism isn't just about causing huge numbers of casualties, its about causing a constant state of fear out of proportion to the numbers killed. People might expect an attack at big public places like an airport, a subway, or a shopping centre, but its when you fear being murdered in your local Pub or favourite restaurant that you are truly afraid.

These attacks never seem to have any motivation behind them other than creating a body count, but it is likely that they were local. Again, someone who realised they could get maximum attention in the current climate.
The attack in Germany last week won't be linked to radicals in the ME by anyone with a brain, and nor will this one if it is an attack; it's too random and targeted nothing of significance, as you said yourself

Depends on the skills of the bomb maker, the ingredients used, the length of time from making the explosives (if home made) and their use, and many other factors. Probably best to wait for further details as they come. Stories in their infancy have a way of morphing from what was initially reported. The Dread Evil Lord Varlak
|
Last week here in Australia a guy set himself on fire and drove in to a police station. But it wasn't terrorism, the guy had no agenda, he was just a crazy weirdo, and so it got little international press. It only got a passing mention here in Australian press.
Thing is, lots of terrible things happen every day and we all just kind of go on with our lives because there's 7 billion of us and stuff will happen. But if a horrible thing is done with a political motive, especially an Islamic political motive, well then we all just freak the feth out. I'm not saying we should ignore terror, or Islamic terror, but there needs to be some perspective.
It's also very weird how much more sensitive we are to these things when it happens in a western country. Did we start a new thread and start dropping in new bits of information when that terrorist set off a bomb in Kabul last month killing 80 people?

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

The difference is, the New Testament largely superseded the earlier violent passages of the Old Testament with more peaceful passages. Whereas Islam is the opposite. Have you heard of Abrogation?
Do you have any counter argument besides What-about-ism? "But Christianity is violent too!" is not a valid counter argument.

Which did precisely nothing to prevent the centuries of religious persecution, warfare and genocides that blighted Europe and elsewhere.
Which isn't my argument anyway. All religions can be used to validate violence, singling out Islam is just ideological axe grinding.
