Hi all,

I have an 1,850 tournament coming up and am using my Ulthwé Eldar. As you can't get a single Crimson Hunter in the Warhost detachment, can you take just one with the new rules in Death from the Skies, or would that need to be an Air Superiority detachment of at least 2 models?

you still have to follow the normal detachment rules of making a battle forged army so unless you have a detachment that is just a single Crimson Hunter then you can't take just a single Crimson Hunter

In death from the skies there's a detachment for just fliers. It's 1-3 flier wings, and a wing consists of 2-4 of the same type of aircraft. So you need a minimum of 2 Crimson hunters.

I just tried to look up how that works in the book and couldn't find the last point - at first. Just in case anyone else has the same problem I thought I'd share.

Page 104 defines the Air Superiority Detachment, which indeed consists of 1-3 flyer wings. It does also state that you either go individual (unbound) or in flier wings of 2-4 models.
However, when looking at the datasheets for Eldar, there are two datasheets (Crimson Hunter and Wraithfighter) and only one formation (Shourd of Kurnous) consisting of 2-3 Crimson Hunters and 1 Wraithfighter.

So how can one field just two Crimson Hunters? The answer is that the individual datasheets have an option to form a flyer wing by adding up to 3 models at the regular cost each and offer to upgrade one of the models to wing leader for a point cost. That forms a flier wing, which fulfills the air superiority detachment mandatory choice and can thereby be fielded battleforged. Yay. The explicitly listed formations do provide additional formation benefits, which the ad-hoc flyer wings do not, but hey, more options don't hurt.

Alternatively you could run a single Hemlock Wraithfighter as part of the Craftworld Warhost.

Thanks guys. Makes sense. I was just a bit confused by the wording. I usually run the Hemlock but have had trouble with a Stormwolf / fang recently so might trim out some parts of the list, buy an extra Crimson Hunter and attach a Shroud of Kurnous formation to the Warhost detachment.
