Coming back after such a long time has its pitfalls of having to relearn everything again, so I wanted to document my progress.

First up are ogres being prepared for a small KoW force. These guys barring a couple metal ones all of army thus far, but because I'm going to be moving in the near future metal minis are going to have to wait so chipping won't be an issue. At least it gives me the chance to practise on Reaper Bones for a while.

As metals are currently off the cards, it means that my passion project of a large League of Rhordia army is on hold for now.

First are the only one that currently have a history for the ogre army - The Boudi Sisters, Ka and Cea.

These two will be taking a while to finish painting as I've only got Army Painter paints and need some more flesh tones.

The other ogres' skin was done with a Chaos Red/Tanned Flesh mix, before working up to a Barbarian Flesh/Skeleton Bone mix. While it looks sloppy up close, it has a good contrast at tabletop distance.

The shield for this ogre was drybrushed up to Necrotic Flesh. I think it may a further highlight, but will see once other areas are done for comparison. While talking about this guy, I should talk about how I dealt with the integral bases of the Bones minis. After gluing them to a base, I used a tube of all-purpose filler applied with a cocktail stick/kebab skewer to remove the 'standing on a mound' look. I'm quite pleased with the results so far.

There are few other photos in my gallery, but I think I should leave them for a later time.

All comments and criticisms will be appreciated.

Great start! How long have you been away from the hobby?

I think the face on the GW Ogre is looking particularly promising. You might try some different colors on the reaper bones ogre's shield. The olive green doesn't really look convincing.

I do really like the blue and orange scheme you have going on the fire giant bones lady.

13 odd years. It was the early days of 6th edition of WHFB was when I started drifting away. The last thing I remember before being gone until now was the start of the living rule book for Blood Bowl.

And thanks for the input. I have been having a problem with the olive green from the Army Painter range as I was going to use it for the GW ogre trousers and its been a pain to do. Part of it is that the GW ogres have such flat arses, part of is I still need to learn more effective paint mixing.

Before doing a new colour of the shield I'm going try out an idea with washes to darkened the flatness of the mouth.

Overall, I've learned two things this week: always use the gubbins on GW ogres, and avoid olive green until getting a WWII based paint set...or learn to better mixing.

An update on the past week's painting.

Only focused on a couple ogres, mainly to break it up with a little variety. So there's a couple extra things posted here.

First is the Reaper Bones ogre with shield. I've tried darkening the face of the shield with a black wash on the eyes and mouth, then a soft tone quickshade all over. I've also done his armour, but I think I may need another coat of a black wash to finish it off. Next will be the leather straps and the wooden back of the shield, before doing the metal rim.

The twin headed ogre has mainly just been doing basecoats of his clubs and trophies, as well as his metallics. The fish have been given a coat of my brightest silver available mixed with Deep Blue. It'll needed a few more coats of black wash to bring out the scales a bit more. Will try some drybrushing on his left club to make it look like he shoved pieces of slate into it.

With Cea The Dragon, really just her armour has been done. Her jewellery needs to be done before the armour looks right. I'm also thinking of making her spear tips be craved bone.

There was only one GW ogre worked on this week. Built up on his trousers and his beard skulls. Made a start on his metallics. Their big flat bums are pain to paint and has regretted my choice of olive green for all of them. I'm going to go with more colours for the rest of them.

I've also made a start on some Red Goblins. I wanted to be make these guys be from the caves so I'm going for their skin to from this yellow up to white via bone for a sickly tone.

Last up are the base coats for a treeman and Cathulhu, with a couple quick angel statues. They were done with drybrushing over spodges of reds, blues and browns, with a wash to bring them together. I'm quite pleased with the basecoat for the base, a mix of Oak Brown and Wolf Grey for a sort dead earth look.

Now for the week ahead...
