Time Commanders
BBC Four
Time Commanders
Time Commanders, the popular historical military strategy series, where teams go head-to-head with some of the greatest generals from history, is back for a third series and we're looking for teams of three to take part.
Are you an armchair general who could lead a team to victory?
Do you have the tactics to outwit the strategic advances of the opposition to command an empire?
In each show, two teams of three friends, family, or colleagues will take control of opposing ancient forces, facing our computer, pre-programmed by our historical experts, before they face off against each other in one of history’s biggest battles.
Please get in touch for more information or to apply for series 3 of Time Commanders.
Time Commanders is produced for the BBC by Lion Television

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Bloody good programme - one of my favourites .
I remember one episode where a Roman legion was defeated by the Ancient Britons - team was a shambles. Was Richard Hammond not the host?

I remember that. A recreation of the Battle of Watling Street, but with Boudicca's army surrounding and annihilating the Romans.

My favourite one was Chalons, Huns vs Romans. Army Cadet Officers in charge, so you might expect them to be good...no they fell apart under pressure. Neil didn't have an idea what to do and couldn't relay a cohesive plan to his Lieutenants, Pat and Chris. Enclosed in spoiler is an accurate description of what happened. It's embarrassing to watch at times. It's not about strategy, it's about how well you can react to the enemy as you carry out your plan and your ability to communicate this to your lieutenants.

Plenty of clips in the earlier Youtube link.
Including the one with the team of vicars it seems
You think you've armchair generaled before, but this takes it to a whole other level.
Nothing quite like being slightly buzzed and screaming "send in the elephants you fools !" at a hapless team of nurses/whatever as they fail spectacularly.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.
"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal |

General: 'Hold half the Cataphracts back just in case' Historians up above going mental: 'NO! Don't send them in drips and drabs, you get them killed!' Lieutenant: But the Historians said to use them all General: Hold half back...just in case. Lieutenant: The fact file says to use all the Cataphracti at once General: Use half the Catafr...cata...horse guys, hold half back... Lieutenant: [charges all the Cataphracts in, despite his general. They win the game because of this, and although the historians note that he didn't obey his general, he made the right decision]. As bone-headed as some decisions are, seeing some really good decisions made by some people is also entertaining to watch. Automatically Appended Next Post: I actually like the 2 teams of 3 format better from a gameplay perspective. The two general format had so much arguing that while funny, meant that most victories were so hollow that they only just won.

I wonder what game they will be using this time, presumably Rome 2?
I mainly watched the first series just to see what Rome would be like as it hadn't yet been released.
