Since they are becoming more of a thing now with AOS releases, wondering if anyone bought one and found it to be worth the 10$?

Been painting for over 10 years, but its nice to get fresh inspiration. Do they show lots of color schemes and how to do them or is it just a paper copy of the learn to paint videos they show on YouTube?

Swear by them

If you want to know exactly what colours are used to get whichever final result, you cannot beat them (combine with Duncan on Warhammer TV and the odd White Dwarf).

+1 For Duncan. He does a great job.

I don't think they add much to sources like Warhammer TV, however, they do have some nice close up shots, so 10 bucks is acceptable and worth it.

I'd go with the electronic versions, but mother han that I've found them useful reference material.

Great thread topic, I was wondering the same!

I bought the Blood Angels 40K "How-to Paint" book. Not only did it cover such things as specific paints to use, it covered different qualities of paint finishes (like if you're just going for table-top quality versus showcase).

The other part I particularly enjoyed was further detail on the different subfactions of the Blood Angels and how to paint to recreate those specific factions.

IF the AOS stuff is anything like that, its totally worth it.

At the price point, totally worth it.

I agree, the books are pretty darn good.

I have the painting book for Harlequins, and to me, it's not worth it (it's more expensive than the $10 AoS ones, and I don't know how similar they are).
My main concern is that it's full of step by step pictures of what the model looks like after applying a color, but it doesn't explain how to do it. A simple list of the paints used + a single picture would give me roughly the same information.

I find the youtube videos much more helpful, as you can actually see the consistency of the paint when it's applied, how the brush is held with respect to the surface, how much wash is applied to the surface etc.

I ended up buying the digital Sylvaneth. It was ok. Not that great. Some good ideas on colors. Not to sound cheap, but the 8$ price wasn't worth it. Maybe 5 bucks and I'm sold
