I am going up against 2 guys next week. We will be playing 3000 points, which they will split amongst their armies. So they get roughly 1500 pts each, while I can spend 3000.

I expect to go against -dark eldar / tyranids- or -dark eldar / knights-.

I plan on spending roughly half of my points the same way most AdMech-players would:

----War Convocation (1545 Pts.)----
Tech Priest Dominus
Kataphron Destroyers (Grav)
Kataphron Destroyers (Grav)
Onager Dunecrawler (Icarus)
Sicarian Infiltrators
Sicarian Ruststalkers
Skitarii Rangers (Arquebus)
Skitarii Vanguard (Plasma) < 10x
Sydonian Dragoons < 3x
Knight Paladin

I am unsure what to do with the other 1455 pts. Two options I was thinking about:
< 1 > Skyhammer for some Grav- / M-Melta-Spam + Stormhawk + Stormraven packed with Flamer-Guys.
< 2 > BA Sanguine Wing for Stormraven and even more free goodies(400 points of free weaponry) + allied drop-pod /w Grav + Stormhawk

<1> will need to take the Stormhawk as unbound detetchment; <2> will have the pod with non-relentless grav, which I am unsure how useful it will be.

Any ideas? I really wanna try out that Stormhawk though (and I will face either Knights or Flyrants, so I think it will always have some targets ;D)

Your two options are good, but I think if you own more knights you should play them. Two turns of Shrouded&Stealth on 3 advancing Knights is a scary prospect. And re-rolling to hit in close combat with force D is very good too...
You could also play one of them as a Cerastus Atrapos (the best one --and the coolest-- in my opinion) (the rules are online). In any case, considering how good the formation's bonuses are, the best you can do is to invest in Knights and AdMech. More Kataphrons, more Sydonian Dragoons.

If playing against Dark eldar, I would suggest you replace the grav cannons of one Kataphron unit for plasma weapons.

Against the flyrants, you can take the AdMech relic that allows you and your unit to snap fire at BS2. With the re-roll to hit canticle, a mid-size grav Kataphron unit will kill one in one shooting easily. Add in your flyers, and the Flyrants won't stand a chance. These could also be put in a bunker where 8 models can shoot through the wide fire points. Corteaz in a big unit of Kataphrosn is also very good.

You also lack ignoring cover weapons. There is two psychic powers that can help you with that.

Thanks for the advice. I actually own 5 knights, as I went on a shopping spree when the renegade boxed set came out, but I didnt have the time (and motivation) to build 4 more of em

Also is the atropos better than the lancer? I am strongly considering getting one of those too. The models are just too cool!

The Atrapos is more durable against shooting attacks than the Lancer (his shield is a -1/-2 malus to strength attack) while the Lancer is more durable in close combat, having a 5++ and forcing enemy superheavy/GMC to hit with a -1 malus. But the Atrapos has a 6+IWND and 7HP (but will lose a HP because of it's ~"gets hot" weapon).
The Atrapos is stronger than the Lancer in the shooting phase (and I find the vortex potential of the Atrapos very cool!), while the Lancer is not better in close combat than the Atrapos, except for a +1I when charging (but the D weapon of the Atrapos in close combat is ap1, which you don't see often).
The Atrapos is 35 points more expansive though. I'd say the Atrapos is more versatile, but if you already play a Paladin and want a close combat oriented Knight, the Lancer may be a better choice for you.

If I was to play a 3000pts of Admech, i would include three Atrapos... They look sooooo Admech
