So this phoenix lord (from mymeara) has had the wording for one of their special rules copy pasted from the exarch.

"All enemy units within 12" of an shadow spectre squad that includes an exarch with this special rule etc."

How would you play this rule?

a) ignore it. it's a phoenix lord not an exarch.

b) it applies only when the PL is in a shadow spectre squad

c) it applies to the PL and any unit he's joined (shadow spectre or not)

d) other

Not sure if this is relevant, but every phoenix lord has the bonus that their exarch gets as one of their rules.

B).

As a slight point not every phoenix lord has the same bonus as their exarchs do.

RAW the answer is A.
In the B scenario, even when joining a Spectre squad, there is no exarch involved (the PL does not become an exarch when joining the squad), unless you purchased one for that squad, but in any case the presence or absence of Iryllith is irrelevant.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Of course, you should play it as if Iryllith was an itself exarch, informing your opponent or the TOs before.

I think it's an odd legacy from 6th edition.

Back in 6th Exarchs was able to buy between 2-3 exarch powers and Phoenix lords came with some of those powers by default. Now in 7th edition Codex:Craftworlds not all Phoenix lords have the same abilities as Exarchs (some does it like Fuegan, some does not like Karandras and some have a variation of it like Maugan Ra)

I feel the intention on this case it's grant the same ability to Irillyth as Exarchs does but as Renegade properly pointed by RAW it should have no effect ingame.

P.S: Doom of Mymeara v2 looks for some reason to be a rushed book with very little proof reading before the release.

I agree with Perversor. The book was not checked properly at all. They really should have done an FAQ by now.

Not a legacy of 6th, just serious lack of proof reading. I'd say it was pretty clear that the special rule was meant to aply to Irylith but they lazily left it unchanged and so RAW it only applies to Exarchs. Personally I play him with the rule applying to him (hasn't actually made a difference yet since I run him in a swuad with an Exarch) but bring it up with my opponents before hand.

I mean if you want to argue fluff, Phoenix Lords are nothing but the first Exarchs.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

RAW I think the answer is clearly A.

RAI I think the answer is C.
