I really enjoy playing fluffy armies, and I just read about Cypher's fluff and rules. Am i correct to assume that his fluff is basically he is with whatever army you take him with because mysterious Cypher reasons? I am pretty confused. (I play Guard, Thousand Sons, and am starting Black Templars if it makes a difference.)

The obvious answer being, more artillery.

Pretty much. Cypher has turned up, often out of nowhere, to save your guys. Alternatively, he allies with Chaos prior to the battle or war.

The BT, iirc, once captured Cypher and turned him over to the Dark Angels.

Take that how you will.

I think the DA destroyed the Templar ship once they handed him over. Shortly after Cypher escaped the DA ship with no traces left behind.

I think you mean the BT had a reactor failure and the Angels went to check for survivors. They wouldn't attack other Marines. No sir.

Yep, tragic event the dark angels had nothing to do with at all one bit, nope!

But to answer your question, yes, he can technically be fielded in any army, not the dark angels.

Personally i like to filed him with Legion of the Damned units, because it seems some how oddly fitting to me.

To many unpainted models to count.

Cypher and the formation that brings along a squad of Chosen is a really fun, mean spirited move. Chosen can bring all manner of weapons to the party, so tailor away.

Also, you can take the Fallen Angels formation with the 1-3 unmarked, VotLW-less, transport-less Chosen. I have zero idea why you would do this unless you wanna do it for fluff reasons. If you're intent on taking Chosen (against SMs) take Cypher (who doesn't count as a HQ choice) and wham an Elites choice on normal chosen. Give them MoS, IoE, and power swords. Maybe the odd melta or plasma. Then enjoy I8 Hit & Run (take that, ATSKNF!) and AP3 at I5, and some Shrouded for anything shooting at you. They proved MvP for me against a tournie White Scar GSF list, though I lost in the end.

Alternatively, load up on Sorcerers and make them Invisible and Psychic shriek-flinging AP3 slaughterers or add Kharn and his party bus (Spartan Assault Vehicle Party w/dirge caster) for lulz against Tau.

None of these options are particularly good, but they are at least fun and a bit better. I mean, it's Chosen.
