Hey everyone, just would like other people's opinions on the Vallejo Liquid Paint range.

Have had the whole set since last year and used it no problems until last night. As usual I use Vodka to keep the juices flowing. But! After I applied the Red Gold and Old gold paint and once dried it turned to a Sandy Brown!

Anyway else had this issue or know why this happens?

Regards, Brad.

I don't recognise that problem, Brad, but I had myriad other problems with the Vallejo liquid gold range.

I bought mine to paint up some Sanguinary Guard and was a bit nonplussed with the results on the first fig.. The coverage was mediocre and it felt like I had to shake the paint vigorously for about half an hour before it was usable.

Fast forward about six months and I decided to return to the squad and I found that the Old Gold had developed an unshiftable crust under the lid, and the other paints weren't much better.

Definitely not an optimal experience!

It goes on well and is a great metallic paint until it turns on you.

I have had quite a few of the liquid gold range and have been very careful not to use a wet brush, not painting from the pot, closing the lid tight etc and all of them will reach a point where they just go bad. I thin it with 99% isopropyl (not added to the pot).

If it looks grainy or has changed color, it's gone bad.

I use LG quite a lot and the first thing I did was to add a small metal nut into the pot so it helped mix the paint when shaking. Sounds like it wasn't particularly mixed and possibly had some water in there.

Are you actually using Vodka as a thinner? I have a litre of 100% Isopropyl alcohol (Maplin's electrical contact cleaner which cost me about a tenner) and I use that as a thinner and brush cleaner. I pour the LG into a small dish then add about 1/4 as much again Iso. It seems to automatically keep the paint mixed as I can see the particles swirling about as the Iso evapourates slowly....
