So i brought this knock-together quick list to my flgs and it did better than i expected by a long shot. its currently 1750,
but 2k is common so i'm looking for good expansion options and any meta list building tips.
formations:
Brethren of the fell-handed
1 Bjorn with hell frost
2 venerable dreads with axe/shield.
- good meaty squad. did a good bit of sweeping up/tank poping for me.
Arjack's shield brothers
1 Arjack Rockfist
7 hammer/shield terminators
1 land raider crusader with multi-melta
- The big scary distraction death star. Never did loose a man. My dice were hot today.
Wolf guard thunder strike
10 wolf guard with combi-melta and a single fist for cc discouragement
5 wolf guard terminators. 3 with combi-melta/power axe and 2 with combi-melta and chain fist
1 drop pod
- my turn one tank/death star hosing unit. They brought the pain and survived quite long for an up close melta demi-suicide squad.
I forget the name of this last formation, but it lets you bring 2-5 packs of Fenresian wolves
4 squads of 5 fenresian wolves each
- nice and flexible. These were my objective grabbers (as individual units) or my distraction/cover screen/harassing unit (as a single blob).
The only thing I was helpless against was a flying circus list with 4 demon princes in it. He flew around casting and I ran for objectives.
Got a solid victory because of objective points. So maybe expand with a storm wolf? I don't know. You guys let me know what you think.

A squad of Long Fangs with Flakk and Ulrik the Slayer to give them Preferred Enemy. If you have points left over buy them a Rhino.

Not a bad unit, but as this army is composed of all formations, it would cost 2 troops to form a CAD.
I don't recall any formations without huge taxes that include long fangs. Also a single ranged unit
an an all up-close and personal army? Seems lacking in focus to me. How would you include the
long fangs into the force? Is an allied detachment legal here? I'd only need a single troop if that
was the case. Good thinking though. Keep 'em coming everyone.

Ancient Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought

Company of the Great Wolf
HQ
Ulrik the Slayer 145
2x Elite
2x Servitors 20
Long Fang Ancient 15
Long Fang Flakk 40
Long Fang Missile 30
250 points
Admittedly there's a twenty point tax in the servitors but it would give you a decent shot at shooting something out of the air or just blowing up msu that want to tarpit your deathstar.
Mind you, for the same price you could throw in a Wyrdstorm Brotherhood.
Rune Priest ml2 Bike Runic Armour Helm of Durfast
Rune Priest ml2 Jump Pack Runic Armour
Two free roaming fast independent characters, one of which can bust out 3d6 s7 shock shots at 24' and if it's the one with the Helm of Durfast they're re-rollable to hit ignores cover shots, on top of which they're during the psychic phase so he can then turbo boost out of line of sight or out to 36' range.

I would take something that glances flyers to death eventually, but jinks them all immediately. (Living Lightning x2 w/ formation included)
I would include stuff that can take advantage of your alpha pack, giving you good LD and good Power Weapons (Runic Axes?)
I would go with things that'll provide you unique options to each game (psykers?)
So yes, Wyrdstorm Brotherhood is it in every way.
Bikes are amazing, as you can psyker it up then turboboost into cover during shooting phase.
You can have a 5beast unit in your backfield within 6" of a table edge. Then, have your Rune Priests each to a 5beast come in at any length of that edge, giving you total board control! (24"!)
Yes. Verily.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm really fond of your list!
Its full of flavor. Rich. Automatically Appended Next Post: You can also go Terminator armour on them

I must admit I've been doing my best to avoid all things psychic in the current edition. Wyrdstorm... where can I find the rules
for this? I do have some dark angel bikes ripe for the conversion. I like the long fangs in the great wolf company more though,
especially as I have all the models for it, and it gives me an excuse to dust off my long fangs. If nothing else the servitors can
be objective campers. I think i'll give that a try... maybe not with ulric though. Seems alot of eggs in a low wound basket. Plus
they'll be left far in the back, so infiltrators will have a field day with them... Maybe a battle leader on Thunderwolf for hiding in
the pup squad(s)? I used to run a kitted lord on wolf with 15 pup vanguards and it often wrecked pretty hard. Good advice all.
Anyone else got a noteworthy opinion?

That's not very nice MekLen, I'm guessing you forgot about the Helm of Durfast because I'd be kind of surprised you wouldn't tell them about the futility of Jinking when your shots ignore cover before making them declare the Jink maneuver.
Curse of the Wulfen 'Wyrdstorm Brotherhood' formation. I'd quote the rules fr you but I an't find my booklet.

Wyrdstorm Brotherhood:
2-5 Rune Priests (you can take Njall as one of priests)
Harness Warp Charges with 3+ when using Tempestas discipline.
Every turn choose a Rune Priest of the formation. That one gets the following power:
- Living Storm (WC3)
24", S7, AP- Assault 2D6, Shock (For every 6 you get +2 hits). Add +1D6 attacks to the power for every Rune Priest in the formation beyond the 1st.

Hate to say it but the only other way for the Wolves to get Ulrik style buffs is with Psyker powers.
You could invest in a Lvl2 Rune Priest and roll on Divination, you'd have the chance at Re-rolling to hit in shooting, 4++ saves on the squad and a few other less useful powers, still the Priest would only cost about 105 points with Lvl2 mastery and Runic Armour leaving you room for a 2nd Long Fang with Flakk missiles.

I would think 3 bikers would be awesome, but two with some wargear is probably better.

So what would an optimal 250 points of wyrdstorm look like?
3 lv1 priests all on bikes with 10 points to spare,
or would 2 more kitted priests be ideal?
Maybe 2 ml2 priests on bike with runic armor....
Would I want divination to lead in with prescience I wonder.
it makes sense supporting an ROF like living storm.
So many things to think about with psykers.

Rune Priest ml2 Bike Runic Armour Helm of Durfast
Rune Priest ml2 Jump Pack Runic Armour
Will bring you in at 250
Otherwise I'd be all for the three Ml1 Priests on bikes just to get the extra D6 shots.
