Subject: Regarding Khorne Daemonkin...getting back into the hobby and Ive got some questions

Hello Dakka. After three years of non-playing and a new edition coming out, I had my first game of Warhammer 40K late last month. I currently play Chaos Space Marines and have been fairly successful. In large games however I see that the codex seems weak. Everyone in my gaming community is telling me that I should just play Khorne Daemonkin. So they tell me that its a lot like CSM but with daemons. I have never looked at the Daemonkin book, and they don't have one available at my store so I'm coming to the Dakka society to ask, could anyone tell me if Khorne Daemonkin use: terminators, defilers, land raiders. For whatever reason when you go to the Games Workshop web site these units are not listed with the Khorne Daemonkin page. If I cannot use terminators, land raiders or defilers I think Ill stick to Chaos Space Marines.........

They can use all three but they're generally seen as weaker units. Defilers especially because they compete with the Soul Grinder who has better armor, less restrictive shooting phase (the Defiler technically mounts more weapons but the moment it fires that Battle Cannon the other weapons are reduced to snapshots or outright cannot fire), and better combat ability for a cheaper cost.
Khorne Daemonkin really buffs Daemon units, as they lose Daemonic Instability for straight up fearless. And you can summon more daemons as the game goes on without needing psykers.

KDK is the way to go, some very decent lists can be developed.

Definitely go KDK, especially since you can use the models you have and you'll get blood tithes. I switched from Orks to KDK so I could wreck faces and be able to use daemons and CSM guys like bikes and a land raider.

Ok thanks, if that's the case then I guess I'll be running some daemons. Thank you. Oh yeah...I also run Slaanesh, the daemon models will be represented by Daemonettes. Everyone in my group already knows I play with a Slaaneshy color sheme and theyre encouraging me to follow suite and use all Slaanesh models for Khorne Daemonkin. Just wondering how often do people encounter armys with "counts as" models? Because its been almost four years since I've had a completely WYSIWYG army. "Counts as" is usually accepted where I come from...What do you think?

In general count-as armies are ok if you have a strong theme or conversions in them. If it looks like no effort was put in, then people will raise some eyebrows.
I once used some normal SMs as CSM with a new paintjob and was politely told aside that I probably should get the SM codex or put some more effort into my army. While it sounded kinda mean, he was in the right as everyone had assumed I brought SMs and when daemons started appearing (this was in 4th edition, where SMs couldn't summon daemons) everyone started raising eyebrows.

Yeah well at the very least the models will be 100% consistant. All bloodthirsters will be represented by the keeper of secrets models. All bloodletters will be represented by daemonettes of Slaanesh models. And all flesh hounds will be represented by seekers of Slaanesh models. Back about five years ago they used to allow such "count as" models in Grand Tournaments. As long as the unit and weapons were consistant throughout the army it was OK. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm pretty excited that ill be able to use daemons with my marines again and that I hope people will be OK with the presentation of my army...especially in tournaments.
